Problem - ACOG on M14

Brothers and sisters,

I recently purchased an ACOG calibrated for 7.62 and installed it on my M14 with the CASM mount. I took it to the range today and I ran out of room to adjust down with the ACOG. Even at the furthest down adjustment on the ACOG I'm still hitting about 16" high at 100 yards with Barnaul 150 gr ammo, which I have a ####load of.



What do you recommend? Is there a different mount I should consider instead of the CASM? Or some kind of angled rail adapter? The height over bore is already substantial so I don't want to make it even larger if I can help it...

I think that's backwards, if you pivot the optic upwards in relation to the muzzle that will lower your POI. You could try putting a small shim at the very front of the rear sight pocket, ahead of the sight-ear screws holding the mount on, and see if that helps. Be careful over-tensioning the front screw though or you can bow your rail.

Probably the best idea would be to send an email or PM to M14.ca and describe the problem.

I am confused here. Wouldn't you want to move the REAR of the mount up, and the FRONT of the mount down to move the POI down? Or am I all ####ed up?

you want to loosen up the back where the two bolts go through the ears, and elevate the front, so the front of the mount will go farther away from your rifle.. Just think about it this way, you are pushing the muzzle down while the scope is not moving.
 
Trust us; get the back of the mount lower or the front higher. That will get you your lost elevation adjustment back.
 
At least that Vltor allows you to dial the weld of the buttstock up a bit. I'd still go for a different optic, but if you really dig the ACOG, try mounting an ARMS #18 mount (you will need to swap out the bolt springs though).

As for HOB, I'm not sure if that's going to help with the elevation issue, but I can't see it helping on holdovers etc.
 
I have the same problem went I tries to mount the Acog on the M1A, the eye relief was too faraway, and it sits too high. The GDI G1 (OSM) system is designed for mounting Acog or any type of optics on you M14/M1A. You don't need a base mount on your Acog, the Acog mounted directly onto the OSM system. Its awesome, I used it a lot on most of the service rifle matches from 100yards to 300yards. I love it.

I used this same mount chosen over all others. It gives me the eye relief required and works fantastic on my M1A. It is designed for an ACOG sight and mounts with pre-drilled holes.
 
RANGE REPORT!

I followed the sage advice of my friends on the 'nutz, raised the set screw on the CASM and VOILA! 1" high at 100 M with 1.5" groups.

Not bad for cheap ammo and a windy, rainy day. Definitely within the tolerance I'm looking for in a battle rifle, too.
