Norinco M305 mag issues?

I had recently purchased a Norinco M305 that has a synthetic stock, i have put about 100 rounds through it so far. Other then changing out the op spring guide rod for a better designed one, it is stock. I had purchased 3 mags (5/20) online and have had nothing but isues with them. I can barely get them to seat. Half the time the bolt wont take up a round. The last round either partially feeds, or once fired will jam in front of the open bolt.
is anyone having similar issues? Is it the mags? The stock ? The bolt? (And yes i know i am getting what i paid for with norinco)

Any advice at this point is appreciated.

Do you have a Norinco mag to compare it to?
You may have to fit the mags and/or your mag release in order for them to work. Don't blame the rifle.

Not blaming the rifle. I did recieve a Norinco mag, and it works fine. If i can't find anyone that experienced similar issues, then the next step is to compare them with a micrometer (which I don't own yet)

If the Norinco mag works fine in the Norinco rifle then why blame the stock or bolt? Are they KCI mags by chance? If they are then do yourself a favour and smash each one with a hammer and thank me later. Are they a grey color and pinned or a indent on the side?

What make/brand are the 3 aftermarket ones you purchased?
If your stock norinco feeds and works fine and these other ones are KCI or something then there's your issue. Also you can modify the mags or your mag catch/release if either one is the issue. I have not had many issues with mags in m305's myself, the odd tight one here and there.

Edit: outwest beat me to it, lol

Ok - if the norinco mag works well, have a look at the aftermarket ones.

Look closely at the tab on the rear of the mag where the mag release seats as you pop it in the gun.

Clearance the TOP of these tabs on the mag with a file, a little at at time, then try it in the rifle. This slight extra clearance should seat the mag a lot more easily. I'm not sure about the feeding issues but it could be that it's not fully seated in the magwell - that's my guess.

I've not tried KCI but I had to do this on my Checkmates.

The reason i thought it might be the bolt is because the bolt seems to be rubbing on the top round in the mags. The bottom of the bolt has a gold line where it seems to be rubbing. But I don't think the rubbing is making the aftermarket mags so hard to seat propely.

Do you mean file the top of the mag ( already tried that) or the follower?

Nope, neither. There's a rectangle (tab) on the outside of the mag body - that's where the mag release engages. There are some pics on this forum.

The grey mags with the indent in the sides to stop the follower at 5 rounds are probably KCI mags. The feed lips are not rigid enough and are easily bent. I bent mine back to proper dimensions but after running a few mags they started acting up again. I have tried them many times but can't get them to work. Gave up and been using Norc mags and 5/20 Mags from Corwin Arms. Zero issues with both.

Go to Wolverine Supplies and get some E Lander mags made for the AIA Enfield and legally shoot 10 rounds in your M14. Quality of the mags is great with E Lander as well.

Cheers

I bought 3 KCI mags when I bought my Norinco. They blow. Don't buy them. Find a different brand. They're grey with a small indent, no markings. Danger, danger, waste of money......

Did you ever think the brass marks on the bottom of the bolt happen when it's moving rearward.....the mag spring is always pushing rounds up.
I don't have a single auto loader that doesn't have marks on the bottom of the bolt/carrier or with pistols on the bottom of the slide.

I know how auto loaders work. But it seems with the KCI mags the the feed lips aren't ridgid and keep allowing the rounds in the mag to get higher (causing excessive rubbing) . At the time I started this thread I didn't know it was the garbage mags causing the problem. I just knew where in the riflr the problem was happening , i.e in the mag well. So the only parts that would cause the problem could have been 1) the bolt 2) the mag or 3) the stock magwell (the stock).

Yeah, i did the same thing and just learned the same lesson. Did you find any mags your m14 likes? I like the AIA 10 round mags, but the price of the mag I am not liking too much.

There's the answer I had been looking for re. my checkmate mags. Muchos gracias

I thought the price of the E-Lander 10/10 mags were kinda steep too…but for the price of two "other" cheaper($$) 5rnd mags I'd rather buy one 10 E-Lander. There's been some positive reviews on them.
The 3 pack @ SFRC brings the cost down even more and they hold a total of 30rnds. I know I'll be buying some….YMMV
