Price: $399.99
@Palmetto State Armory

Description:

Effective 10/13/14 Bayonet is no longer included - Originally issued to the Czech army in 1958, the VZ58 is still in use by both the Czech and Slovak armies, their police and customs agents. Though similar to the other rifles of this style in appearance, the VZ58 uses a completely different bolt and fire control system. Even with a machined receiver, the VZ2008 is lighter than most similarly styled firearms with a sheet metal receiver. Century's semi-auto version features a U.S. made receiver machined out of a bar of premium steel and a quality U.S. made barrel. All metal parts are bead blasted and coated with a non reflective finish. Will not operate with AK 47 mags.

Comes with Five 30 rd. mags, Cleaning Kit

Barrel: 16.25" with a 1:9.5 twist, Overall: 27" (stock folded), 35.5" (stock extended), Weight: 7 lbs. Condition: Excellent

We have a FRT for this right ?

Whatever. Even if we do and it's still non-restricted in our LaLa Land of gun ownership confusion, the combo will cost $699+ by the time it gets to the retailers north of the border.

The Yank gun owners stay millions strong in large part because their gun retailers do not engage in hardcore price gouging and most people can afford to own cool toys and still pay their bills... as opposed to our beautiful country. The retardedness of the F.A. is only a part of our problem in promoting this hobby (collecting/target shooting). The inflated prices of the guns themselves also play a large role in who can afford to be a gun owner in the first place.

You either pay your mortgage this month or you order yourself a $700+ VZ2008 (that costs $400 down south, by the way)... for most working-class people, it's not a hard choice to make.

(and before anyone points out the extra red tape / legal hoops our retailers have to go through vs. those in the U.S., I sincerely doubt these extra hoops cost $300+/unit)

I would still buy a couple at $699. That's better then the $899 they are selling for right now.

Well, there ya go... I stand corrected, Sir!

(thanks for proving my point even further though! Outrageous price gouging is an expression that would fit quite well in this instance. I wouldn't buy one at $900 even if I had won the 6/49, purely out of principle...)

It is laughable how much Canadian gun shooters are taken advantage off. I think 762mm is correct.

No there is NO FRT # for this model.

Yes us Canadians get hosed still when trying to import rifles.
Shipping to ffl dealer then shipping up to us. Then shipping with tax to our residence then of course don't forget the currency exchange :eyesroll:

I remember Trigger Wholesale was working on importation a year ago. What happened that there`s no FRT. bfiles, I did not know this. I remember that an issue was that Century had on their rifles ``restricted`` barrels and that Trigger was delayed with needing to barrel change in order to sell in large numbers as non-r.

It just hasn't been issued an frt yet. Nothing happened, the lab is slow.

Yes we got Norincos but everything else we get hosed on (scopes, magazines, barrels, etc, etc, etc).

Not sure how many of you noticed but you can buy Canadian made Elcan SpecterDr cheaper in U.S. How is that possible? Should it not be $400-500 less to buy here?

Most everything is cheaper in the US, a lot of the aftermarket auto parts/accessories for my Jeep are half price there and I buy/ship to a box in Detroit and pick them up. Even with taxes at the border I save a small fortune.

$399 US VZ58, yes it exists there. I believe the same rifle is being manufactured with a NR barrel and is being inspected by the RCMP right now. That's the last I heard on the subject, anyway. There definitely is a big jump in price when a new barrel has to be made for the CDN market.

It's frustrating to us but I don't think it's as simple as blaming the dealers for price gouging. There may be some of that where certain companies have exclusive rights but for the most part Canadian dealers have to deal with a much smaller market and far more regulations than their American counterparts.

For example an American dealer could make a deal for 10,000 rifles in a standard configuration. A Canadian distributor might have a place an order for 500 riles modified to meet Canadian regulations.

The dealers I know are not getting rich, they are mostly small businesses that have a passion for what they do.

heres the funny thing . once a upon a time our prices were lower than the US . the cz858 were $699 and theirs were $750-800 but as they started to import more , the prices started to drop .

while our prices moved higher , mainly bcos of a change of manufacturer , the CSA is a better product so I don't mind paying more.

I hope the vz2008 makes it in , not bcos its a cheaper option but also I like more variety .
