Hey Guys,

I'm planning to purchase a gun in the new year and I am torn between the Glock and S&W MP.
Any suggestions on which should be my first gun? I will be doing range shooting and I eventually want to get both but which one should I get first.

Any of your feedback or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I went with the M&P 9. I had several reasons to do so starting with grip angle, the glock for me was uncomfortable while the mp9 with its back straps felt nice. Second was price, the range kit with the M&P 9 was very easy on the pocket and came everything you need to start playing. The glocks factory trigger is much better than the M&P but I instslled the apexs forward sear set and now my M&P has a top of the line trigger which I use in standard division in IPSC.

My biggest suggestion is to go to a store and see how each fit in your hand as that really is the best way to see how either will feel. Hope this helps.

Good advice to try both; some fit better than others... Don't let cost be a factor, as you will need to spend $ to get an Apex trigger for the M and P as their stock triggers are CRAP. That said, $40 on a Ghost connector will make you Glock a work of art too...

Get a CORE. You get a great trigger and the ability to mount optics for not much extra money.

I agree with trying it out first. My wife tried using the glock during our silvercore course. halfway through the course, her hand was hurting due to the aggressive grip angle. She switched to the M&P and was much more comfortable (and subsequently more accurate) with it

Glock 19. Hated the hump on Glock 17. Bugged the hell out of me. Glock 19's hump sits higher in the grip so not really noticeable holding it.

Never cared much for the M&P although good gun.

Ya definitely, buy an inferior pistol for more money.

LOL I wouldn't call 1911 inferior. For a fun day at the range I most prefer my 1911 over Glock which I got rid of. The Glock doesn't compare with 1911 grip and trigger.

If we were allowed to carry or going to war then yes the Glock would be a better option.

You can't go too far wrong with either one. The M&P range kit is a better buy with three magazines, Blade Tech holster and magazine pouch, and Maglula loading tool, as well as steel sights vs the flimsy plastic Glock ones. The Glock has the advantage of slightly better parts and magazine availability. Buy one or the other and spend what you would have spent on the other pistol on ammo instead.

Just don't get a 9mm 1911. Unless you spend fairly big bucks on one, they are a special kind of finicky. As a beginner, you are better off focusing on learning to shoot the gun, rather than tinkering with it.

Lots of comparison vids and forum discussion.

One week I took both to the range and did a nice hands on battle royal with a few friends.

Most everyone chose the M&P,....I still choose the Glock.

Fits my hand better and I appreciate the minimal design characteristics.

And I shoot it much better than the M&P.

So it's quite important that you try both.

i own both.
started with the Glock then the M&P came out and i fell in love with them.
just felt better in the hand and i prefer how the M&P bore axis is higher and feels more natural to shoot for me.

both guns so far havnt failed me and i cant say anything bad about either and would recommend either to anyone who is looking at them.
try to get to a store that has both and try the hand fit side by side or even better try to find someone who can let you shoot both side by side.

either way youll enjoy owning which ever one you choose.
