wow, after reading the membership section, that man must have an ego to rival Napolean, Genghis Khan and Henry VIII combined!

Might be an amazing shooter but club digweed has lowered my opinion of him to just above pond scum.

gwagen, the way some people (including posters in CGN's shotgun forums) idolize him it's only natural he would.

I'm dubious on the claim of 'greatest shotgun shooter ever' I saw or heard on that video.

I hear you, greatest shotgun shooter, I don't think so, he'd have to start dabbling in a lot of different disciplines and be setting records to make any claims to that.

Just look at the old factory/industry shooters from the 50's and 60's they could shoot and win in skeet, trap, olympic events and often do trick shooting shows.

He is a natural. Anybody shoot a make-a-break from the hip and hit everyone? How about a 130 yard teal? Holds more World championships than any other in the last 100 years. It is nothing about "idolize" but respect for one of the top in the World and info for those that are interested. BTW, he won his first World FITASC at Okemo Vermont in 1992. Incredible shooting on a side of a towering mountain!

No one can argue Digweed's success but one nagging question is why he doesn't compete in the Olympics. Richard Faulds, arguably Digweed's closest rival, has a gold medal to his credit. Why not Digweed if he's the "greatest shooter ever." Is there something about the Olympics that keeps him away?

Anyone who knows the sporting clays scene will attest that Digweed is the world's best bar none.

The Olympics is not the be all and end all, and doesn't even have sporting clays, a very difficult clay target discipline.

A few years back George competed in a all clays event involving skeet, trap, 5 stand, and sporting clays. While not finishing top in all events, he scored consistently high to win the high over-all.

Twenty three world titles , shooting in 5 decades, with success in every one puts him pretty close to the top shotgunner.

He is an excellent shooter no argument there. But paying to be a fleeting peon in the greatness of his presence, just rubs me the wrong way badly.

Top sporting clays shooter for sure, top shot gunner, I think he would have to have success in more than just one discipline to be considered for that.

He did win both World Allround events which included, Olympic Skeet, trap, 5-stand, sporting and live pigeon. He did get his MBE not for his shooting (like Faulds did) but for all the charitable work he does. He plays cricket and is a very good golfer. Before the World FITASC in Portugal he got hit by a golf cart at a fundraiser. His knee was double in size but he still competed at the World. He is a great bird shooter. There are videos of him shooting live birds on youtube. I have seen him shoot in South Africa, just awesome on some of the very distant birds! Then there is his twisted English humour. I become one of his victims every so often. Check out the youtube video of the spoon on the head competition. But what makes him standout the most in the shooting world? He is the most honest competitor. He does not look for chips and will even admit that he missed a clay that the ref could not judge.

While he is sponsored by a number of companies, that does not give you any cash. Club Digweed makes good business sense.

No one denies he's a great shooter and if suckers around the world will pay him to be part of some inner circle he'd be foolish not to take their money.

But still the question remains why he hasn't competed in the Olympics. He has proven he can shoot the disciplines. What is he afraid of?

BTW, the MBE is on the same scale as the Order of Canada and should be regarded in that context.

Difference being though no one buys an Order of Canada......

I think one of the reasons I feel Digweed is one of the greatest, or possibly the greatest, is his winning so many world championships. But it was almost a surprise when I realized that I felt sporting clays was the premier kind of match because of the variety of shots. After all, trap and skeet are set pieces while shooting sporting or even 5 stand you run into different set ups each time, though I have only watched 5 stand. I don't intend to demean anyone who is good at any of them, but Digweed must be able to adapt to just about anything. It's probably a faint hope that he wouldn't do good in some other discipline. It's also true that people that are champions can say things and just be honest about it while the rest of us have to be a little more humble. I recall...'story alert!'...an advisor I had many years ago who said "Fred the poorer you are at something, the nicer you have to be!" You guys are always interesting even if you are wrong...lol!!!!

This is a moot argument, as everyone knows the greatest shotgunner in the world is Kim Rhode. She has the Olympic medals in two disciplines to prove it.

But, she cannot hit a teal target at 130 yards nor shoot a make-a-break from the hip. BTW, how many times was she a world champion? 2 compared to 23 for GD! 18 Euro, 116 International titles, 16 World Cup! There is no other that has come close.

Where's his gold medals in skeet and double trap? The fact is, the best shooters in the world are in the Olympics. You forget she has two gold medals in double trap and one in skeet and and NSSA world championship at age 13. When all the best gather, she dominates. And as far as FITASC world championships go, that's like "world series champion"... Its a world championship in name only.

Take a look at the Professional Sporting Clays Ass'n shoots this summer.

Vincent Handcock, who is the best skeet shooter in the Olympics isn't even in the running for top spot in sporting clays.
