Hey all,
I'm wondering if night sights sets exist with a red tritium front post and green dots on the rear sight? Trijicon and Meprolight are the only brands I know. On their website, Trijicon has a HD red front but from the pics, looks like the rear sights are blacked out. I am looking for something with green rears and a red front. Reason I would like to try the red front is from trying a fiberoptic red front on a CZ and seeing how quick you can pick up your target! The usual green rear/ green front can be distracting. Any ideas on a good high quality set? Thanks!

PS for G22 and 1911

I have never seen red tritium night sights; I think it would be very difficult to get decent light output from red. You'd have to get the red to flouresce pretty intensely for your eye to pick it up as well as the green.

There's a reason green is the most common colour: it's easier to get it good and bright at a level your eye will pick up. The configuration you're describing would almost certainly end up with way brighter rears than fronts, which would be...bad.

Thanks guys! My issue with the green/green combo is my eyesight at the extended handgun grip range makes the sight picture look like double vision, I almost see 4-5 dots with low light. I can focus and see 3 but it takes time so I thought red would make a easier flash sight picture due to the distinct contrast. Oh well, back to the drawing board!

I hit my rears with a red sharpie. It dims and tints them and gives a similar effect to what you might be after. It's also very cheap to try.

Thanks for the tip. You said rears, right? What kind of night sights do you currently use? How many coats do you colour the sights to achieve the effect? What color does it end up being? Brown? Is the end result like blacking out the rear sights completely?
Also, do you have experience with rear night sights and fiberoptic front? Will fiberoptic sights light up enough in a dark room or are full night sights still the way to go? Sorry for all the questions and again, thanks for your help!

1) yes, rears

2) usually trijicons because they're readily available. Sometimes Warrens. On 1911s, Novaks or Warrens, sometimes black rears, sometimes 2-dot rears, sometimes straight-8 type. I'm not particularly sight sensitive. My only non-negotiable is a night sight on the front.

3) no idea...I just hit them with a sharpie until they look right to me

4) kind of orangey brown

5) no, they're still visible, just dimmer

6) the only type of sight I've seen break more than Ruger 1911 fronts are fiber optics, so I won't put them on my guns.

7) In a dark room they don't do much, although I don't shoot in a lot of dark rooms. Never tried an FO front with a weapon light running, might work. Still don't trust the durability though. Others may feel differently.

8) I put night sights of one sort or another on everything I can.
