Osprey Armament MK36 - AR15 Alternative??

Can they even be purchased new? Or is it discontinued?

As of now discontinued.
Very slim and expensive spare parts.
I owned one and shot one a lot though. It's an awesome design, I prefered it over the AR15 design at its base (love the AR15 as well so no bias).
Very reliable action, very simple, as accurate as an average quality stock AR. Very light, well balanced rifle.
They are still one of the best deals for a NR black rifle in my opinion though for the price, if you can get one used don't pay more than $1500.
Any more and you may as well just go a bit bigger and go for XCR-L with more parts and service if you need it plus a bit better ergonomics etc.
The AR180b is a sweet rifle though. I'm still patiently waiting for them to start up a run of newer modifed version again :(
If you can get one for under $1500 I'd highly recomend it.

Why would they design this around a 30-06? I have some understanding of the characteristics of that round, but it seems like .308 would be a more suitable choice? Perhaps Im missing the target audience or intented use of the rifle..range or power limitations or whatever.

Not trying to start anything..more interested in learning something.

Firstly Americans love the -06 as much as Canadians love the 303. Second, I think the intent is to bridge the gap between the 308 and 338 Lapua - in other words it's a solution to a non-existent problem.

Exhuming this thread

Was there any news from Osprey at this year's Shot Show?
or
What ever happened to the CAR14 Troy was working on?

So are a lot of other guns. That doesn't make them ar15 variants or automatically restricted.

ATRS Modern Hunter for example.

No you can't drop standard ar-15 fire control group parts into a MH. The only trigger that works is the timney due to proprietary trigger holder in the MH. Notice how it only has one pin for the trigger?

Since this thread is talking about other new or possible arrivals for us..any news about the Troy PAR? If this is, or is going to be NR?Also, does barrel length matter on a pump action? thnx.

anything that can be mated to an AR lower and fire will be classed an AR variant
