Just wondering if anyone could provide comment on if they received extra duty on imported products, specifically vortex? I understand general sales tax is likely incurred for the province you reside in...

It's more of a won't than it is a can't. They could jump thru the hoops and legally sell scopes to Canadians but they have chosen not to take on the hassle/expense etc.

They do, however, export spotters, binos etc to Canada. Got a nice set of Minox binos from them via Ebay a couple of years ago. First class service all the way!

Some manufacturers have limited sales to other countries, it's a dealer/distributor protection. Swarovski is one example, they can't sell any outside of the USA, even binocs and spotters.

I've ordered from them and also quite a bit of other stuff from the US. Firstly, insist on anyone shipping to use USPS, not UPS or Fedex, you'll get nailed automatically for duty/taxes/brokerage fees. As a rule of thumb, with USPS/Canada Post about 50% of the items get nailed for taxes/fees and it seems the high priced stuff more often. Even so, it's pretty rare for an item coming from the US to get duty on top of taxes if it's made outside of a NAFTA country.

CameraLandNY is great to deal with by the way, no issues.
 
Thanks guys, was looking into a spotter and a new set of binos. Spoke to Doug and they ship USPS and Can post, so that is good. I would be happy to pay the 5% sales tax, their prices still blow our out of the water!
 
Doesn't help now our dollar is in the tank compared to the American. I am tempted to buy new bios as well and have checked their website a few times. Plus they are a site sponsor so its good to support them.
