Bush truck

Here's mine, it's a 1995 Bronco. It is a damn fine hunting and bush truck while being quite comfortable since it is decked out with all of the Eddie Bauer options. However, for the right price I would probably sell it since I miss my Jeep and want to get another.

 
Toyota Barely break down and parts are not overally $$$

Most I broke on mine was tie rod and a factory ball joint, but thats me slamming hard into rocks. 20mins max and back on the road once I had parts. I never had any engines or drivetain issues with mine. I had a 98 3.4 4runner.

As stated before, I'm more of a 1 ton fan (because they don't break) but I have to admit , this thing crawls pretty good!

Samurai is a hiking truck, not hunting truck. It is basically useless, no room for game animals, no room for firearms.

Sure, there is plenty of room. You just have to find it. It's Japanese. Less is more.

Put the rear of the animal in the "box" and hang the rest of it on the roof. Problem solved. :)

they are small but that is why they are so usefull for game recovery. I am 6'4" and was able to drive mine in reasonable comfort. I have pulled moose from places my friends with quads would not dare go, crossed water where quads floated away in and hydro locked their engines, drove through clear cuts over snags that left quads high centered, even pulled out my truck, camper and tandem axle trailer when we got snowed in.

even good for hanging moose without the winch, whole in the middle of the night after you pull it out of a swamp tied to your hitch to the main road and then go grab your tandem trailer which it also tows to take it back to camp.

It was a 71 with a 69 grill.
Liked the signal lights in the grill verses the front bumper.
Made up a winch bumper, so needed to do something with the signals.

26 years of service, originally was a 72 Suburban rolling frame. I chopped a foot of frame rails off the back, transferred the rear cab and box mounts and first had a rust bucket 69 Chev C/10 body on it. Eventually did another body transplant to the 72 body, extended the front bumper. 350/350 205 transfer case and lockers front and back. 11-12 mpg city, highway, summer, winter, loaded or not or pulling the boat ! Only thing that stopped it was tree spacing. I sold it last year and it was like cutting one nut off seeing it leave.

I got a Cherokee with the H.O. inline 6, 4 1/2 inch short arm Rusty's lift with 33 inch tires. It's a dam 5 spd std, I wish it was an automatic (I'm an old guy and drive like one). It's a 4 door, I wish it was a 2 door. I'm chubby, doors are wider on the 2 dr. Other that that, she's good to go. I mounted grader fans on the ceiling to help keep my two dogs cooler on warm days. No a/c in this one. Sure wish it had power windows so I could zip up fast when a bear or deer is spotted while we are cruz'en the forest trails, the dogs go crazy and wanna try to jump out and give chase. On hot days we cruise the trails in my stock 2 dr Jimmy with a/c and P.W.
EDIT: if I didn't have these 2 vehicles, I would not leave home without my Dodge;)

This is a damn fine choice.

Anyone who thinks parts are hard to find for these must not realize they share most of their parts with same-generation F150s, which are a dime a dozen in every wrecker.

If I had the money to pay the gas on a v8, I'd be wanting one of those. That said, Im going with a 1990-1994 Ford Explorer with the 4.0l v6 engine. Parts are widely available, and the trucks are super easy and cheap to lift. I already have a Bronco II, and if it wasn't for the fact it doesn't have enough seatbelts I would be keeping it.

Toyotas are nice, but you have to spend way too much for a decent one. They are a good candidate for buying a new truck, but they hold resale value far too good to buy a used one. Parts also dont exist in wreckers, because toyota people pack their old trucks in their backyards for parts for their new truck. They dont end up in the wrecker til they are just a frame and a few body panels.

If you want a diesel, get a Dodge. While dodges are garbage, you can't argue with the cummins engine. Its simply the best diesel around, full stop. Just be prepared to invest in the transmission if the previous owner didn't.

If its not a cummins diesel, I'd go Ford for a bush truck. The parts are just as common as the Chevy, but Ford makes good enough vehicles to NOT require a government bailout. Cant say that about the other two major domestic brands.

And this is exactly why I love my bronco II. Its not quite samarai sized, but its a whole lot smaller than anything else, except a Jeep Wrangler/tj/yj while being cheap and easy to lift/upgrade ect.

word from an accredited Ford production manager (friend of the family) is: "do not buy any of our products"! Take that to the bank or smoke it in your pipe! Your decision! Beware, the buyer! FoMoCo products are now made to very low end quality. Die hard if you will! Your choice!
 
Last night I was looking around at a few others, came up with Land Rover, Jeep, Dodge and (believe it or not) Mercedes. I see a few of you have mentioned some of them as well in the meantime.

I`m a Ford guy with a 2010 FX4 5.4 L 4 door that`s been pretty much all over Ontario. Logging roads, trails etc. I get 850 to 900 kms per 135 liter tank of regular gas on the highway, city I get about 800/825. If I have a heavy foot its more like 500 kms. In/ on trails etc I can average about 650 kms because I`m crawling. The truck is heavy at 7300 lbs.
Some of the newer Chevs I have been with are breaking front axles and getting stuck easy no matter what kind of mud tire. 5.3/5.7 has just way to much torque so the tires just spin. My F 150 can crawl but is to heavy.
My personal advice is the Yoda, small/nimble/good gas,diesel mileage/ and a great off roader right from the factory (Just add good tires). (Some other good ones may be the Suzuki Samari or the GMC Sun Runner. I know people who use these moose hunting and with a winch they go where atv`s go.)
 
#3 son Jr has a Cherokee with the in line 6 cyl H.O. with an 8 1/2 inch Rusty's long arm lift with 35 inch tires, I can not get into that vehicle with ease, too high! But that sucka can spook me to almost wetting my pants on the trail and can go almost anywhere in any slop mush trail in the forest! Very scary, for sure! A 5 spd screamer! In sane! All I can see is sitting there for hrs on end and waiting in a water hole for a come to a tow/winch rescue! So far, so good, no need for that so far!

Independent front end on that particular truck. If you want to lift it, it'll cost significantly more than if you had something with a solid front axle. Just something to consider.
 
Had an old GMC 1500 that we used as a good ole landscaping truck for years, beat it to ####, and it still ran beautifully at the end. Another company I worked for had the same truck bought brand new in 1970something and same deal, rock solid and dependable for years on years on years.
