.35 caliber Bear Defense Gun

There's a great video out there of a guy who gets out of his brother's fishing boat and goes for a walk with his video camera in the Northern Ontario bush. Nothing but a camera.

He got great footage of a black bear approaching him and not taking no for an answer - video shows him backing up (and falling down over dead fall and in puddles) screaming at the bear to go away. And the bear just keeps coming.

I think it finally charged him and he hit it with the camera which caused it to back off. You can hear the panic in his voice.

I saw this video when it was shown on an outdoors show about bear attacks. This guy said he thought he was going to die. I think it happened about the same time at the old man getting killed in the berry patch here in MB.

That video shows a very calm bear approaching the camera man, the bear is not exerting any energy at all with growls and chest beating, it knows the man is defenseless and eventually he will slip trip run or stop and become dinner... That guy is lucky to be alive still and running into the water is the only thing that saved his life.

Sounds to me like you Manitobans are scared of a little bear wrasslin'

Just ribbing you, obviously we are all fans of guns here, but taking proper precautions when you are in bear country will save your life a thousand times without you having to shoot a bear or go through an encounter like that.

Most people believe that a bear attack is a full on high speed charge yes these happen but in most cases the bear knows it needs to reserve energy just in case the meal is able to ward it off.

This is a classic style of bear attack happens far more often than a full on charge basically the bear is exerting as little energy as possible for it's next meal.

Comes down to calories if the bear expends more than it takes in it will die also if it gets hurt in the attack it could die basically it is done this way for self preservation.

and I believe it would have completely changed things I figure you would have been #1. :)

How come no one has suggested the Mod 95 Winchester in 405, there's lots on the market in the Miroku and it holds 5 under and 1 up and will kill the biggest bear around. Trim the barrel back to 20", remount the sight and hit the bush...........good to go. Smooth, reliable, well proven action with a real thumper cartridge and more pleasant to shoot than a loaded up 45-70.

I like the way you think. Have always wanted one but just really couldn't find a good reason. They're just a solid, uncomplicated rifle that looks good, I think handsome when I see one. In a take down they would be just the ticket.
