10 inch daniel defense?

I can only comment on my own experience with a 10.5... Almost no difference sub 50, a little sub 100, a little more out to 200. 300 is pushing it.

No issues feeding or ejecting.
 
I picked up a MK18 in September. I love it. Not enough rounds through it yet to give a lot of feedback and my local range has a max distance of 100 yds...plus it is my first AR...but I'm in love with it.
 
10 inch AR's are perfectly capable of delivering hits on man sized targets out to 400+, accuracy isn't the real issue, the lack of velocity is. At those ranges the bullet is getting pushed around by atmospherics due to it's lack of both weight and velocity. As always with short barrelled AR's 77 grain bullets do much better than 55 grain ones. It does take someone with good fundamentals to use any rifle (off the bench) at those ranges.
 
My restricted outdoor range has a max range of 50-60 yards or so... not going to practice on anything over 50 yards with the ar anyway.
That might be an issue, and that might make me want to buy a NR quality semi auto instead of a restricted, because the outdoor restricted range is pretty much inactive right now and it's 50 yards only. And they do not allow shooting 223 inside. (max 357 magnum)

What is the range of a 10 inch ar, vs 14, 16, 18, or 20? with 55g FMJ standard ammo?
It it just sad that you are not even allowed to go to a regular shooting range with a restricted. Seriously. Shooting range next door to the restricted range has a very safe setup with 200 yards targets up to 338 LM, and you are not allowed to shoot a 223 ar there. Dumb.
Has nice and safe 25Y targets with backstops up to 338lm and not allowed to shoot pistol there, dumb.

You need to find a better range then...

You will easily see consistent hits on target at that range. I was shooting 1.2" groups at 25yds with iron sights this afternoon with my MK18. And I forgot my prescrption glasses at home. Wind won't be an issue really at those distances either.

If you like the gun, no reason not to buy it. You won't be shooting "sniper" distances at your range even if you had a MK12, going by those rules anyway.

*edit* I should say I was shooting standard 55gr fmj ammo...and I'm certainly no sharpshooter
 
As stated previously in this thread, the shorter bbl ARs like heavier rounds. I've used 77gr OTM professionally to good effect out to ~400m down a Mk18 pipe. In fact I managed to line up some of thesame ammo we used on that tasking for my civvie street Dd Mk18.

I was just out chronographing loads through a Mk18 this weekend. The 77gr. SMK's preformed superbly, velocities nice and consistant, SD was very low as well as the extreme spread. Shot it out to 100yards on a windy day and they performed better than any of the other 19 loads I had out that day. I also own a 14.5" bbl and 16" bbl and heavy bullets out to long distance are the key to bucking the wind.
 
Hey guys I just ordered a mk18 from wolverine.
I was wondering about picking up some 77gr pills to reload. Are their issues with oal with the mags and that heavy a round?
Not to derail but you have any tried and true load info you use?

Don't use Hornady A-MAX pills over 55gr. The bullet design aren't conducive to be shot out of an AR other than single hand feeding due to OAL. Sierra Matchkings, Hornady HPBT etc work nicely.
