I like to shoot hand loads in the 308 one of my favourite old loads is a 200 grain load. My model seven can handle it but its pretty tight. The only reason I mention this is because on a couple of occasions I had a bullet get hung up around the feeding ramp, it wasn't a very big deal I just gave it a few good wiggles with my thumb and everything was right again.
I recently sold my 700 varmint with out a doubt it had a slightly longer magazine from the back of the mag to the front of the loading ramp. My point being it was always much easer to load the magazine and never had a hang up.
