Ok odd question here. I dragged my sks out of the locker and the box of parts because I took it apart some time ago and didnt put it back together. Under the front adjustable sight theres normally a short spring and a rod. I believe its called a transfer rod ? Mine doesnt have one, just the spring. So I cant deem to lock the spring into place to attach the gas tube. It seems to be the only missing part and I dont recall it ever having one. Im wondering if its part of the removed system here in Canada to eliminate the full auto ? If thats the case how do I get that spring to compress so I can attach the gas tube ? If its not the case... I guess im going on a treasure hunt again lol

It doesn't have anything to do with FA. It transfers the push from the gas piston to the bolt carrier to cycle the gun. You need to find that part, it is required and was there before you took it apart. The lock lever hold it and the spring in place, spring in first then "transfer rod" or whatever it is called.

SKS were never full auto, always only semi... the rod you're missing pushes the bolt back to load the next round... without it you're on manual ;)

You can buy the part from Lever arms in Vancouver

FYI once you found it or order one, you put the small end in first with the spring and lightly push the plunger end in while pushing down on the lever to lock it in place

Its not a piston return spring he's referring to.... the gas piston hits the piston extension, which it turn hits the bolt... the piston extension has a return spring
