I have dozens of laminate stocks... I prefer it to all other materials for a working gun... it is not as pretty as nicely grained walnut, but looks much better than ugly synthetic... the downside for some is the weight... personally, I like a hefty gun on the bench or in the field... and I don't mind hauling it around.
laminate tends to be heavy but very stable. to me laminates feel good to the hand. cold and wet don't effect them like nice walnut. much cheaper than good layed up stocks like mcmillan. a boyds laminate arround $150 to the door a mac closer to $600+ and a b&c $400. laminates are probably strong enough to beat an animal to death with.
