RC K98 Totenkopf

From what I can see it does look legit.

I've seen pics of all matching rifles where the metal and stock are marked with a deaths head but not just the stock - the answer is simple - the stock doesn't match the rifle because it is an RC - which means someone might have the barreled receiver (I know there are at least 4x examples of legit SS RC captured rifle in the US).

There are fake stamps out there - but again - why would the Russian's do this. Then again there were some rifles from Marstar with debated markings and also some SVT's that have popped up as well.

The only SS rifles I've seen in Canada are RC's that have the single Rune and some of those were imported from the US.

Aren't all legit SS contract rifles 660/BNZ?

If there a K98 sticky other than the picture thread? I'd like to do some reading on them, anyone have a web link to a Mauser pGe or alternate forum? I'd like to read up before I start looking around for one to buy.

Or, you could skip all the research and hassle and just buy the matching late war one on the EE. The seller is a very knowledgeable and respected collector and the price is a bargain. I can't believe it's still on there.f:P:

The only accepted SS contract rifles were bnz43, and 4, 44. Maybe even only 43 and 4.
They have different serial number patterns and acceptance patterns.

Only other way to know if I rifle is SS used is by means of a deaths head, or sszza2 or sszza4 depot marking.

Most of the rifles used by the ss were no differently marked.

That thing is a beauty dream! I would love to have it. Would display well with my phosphate asw's and sgx bayonets!

When a Gew98 was converted to K98 specs, the barrel was often retained and recontoured, but sometimes the barrels were replaced with Steyr armorer replacement barrels that were 660 marked. Otherwise the ss didn't use 660 marked receivers unless they were heer marked rifles that ended up in an ss repair depot and marked accordingly. I don't remember ever seeing one, but the possibility does exist.

The main problem with that one is payment only by Canada post money order, being they limit each one to $999.99, and you get charged for everyone you send. Great rifle though

Take it from an experienced collector where most of mine come from the US. 21 extra dollars on top of the asking price is not much to worry about.

Just to break it down so some of you have an idea of what it costs to bring in a legit matching K98k. Lets say the average late war high demand K98k sells for around the 2300 dollar US mark. This is a realistic number based on many recent auctions and purchases by myself and others on here. You might find a better deal if it has slight issues or a private collector to collector purchase but those relationships take time to build and aren't likely for the casual buyer. Any way, 2300 US is roughly 2600 Can. with our dollar so low these days. Most sellers in the US charge anywhere from 40-100 bucks to ship depending on insurance, hard case, etc. and I highly recommend you spend the money on insurance based on a couple tracking fiasco's with USPS. Nothing lost so far but some pretty good scares.

So now you're up to 2650. Add import fees of 200-250, duty, and shipping from your importer to your house and you have a 3k plus K98k in a hurry.

And sorry to the OP. This is getting way off topic from your neat DH RC.

Yes I'm aware, imported firearms myself from the US, but also depends on where you are from, access to post office, work away from home, yes $21 isn't much but then have to mail them out, prefer to send them Xpresspost. Just saying that easier to sell stuff if EMT is the option. My credit union didn't have EMTs, so opened up a separate account somewhere else just for that.

and yes sorry to OP, great find in an RC, would love to have one with a death head

Hey Darc,
Does the serial # on the bottom of the buttstock still exist or did the soviets sand it all off. I'm curious as to whether or not it was over stamped like the buttplate?

Cheers, thanks for the info. I need something new that's not a red rifle and a Mauser would be nice.

Hey,

The serial number on the bottom of the buttstock is still intact. It was not over stamped like the butt plate.

Im wondering why this stock only has the DH marking but no nazi eagle proofs on the stock like other RC's Ive seen..Is that because it was a converted rifle stock from a gew98?
