Winchester 100 firing pin recall

A nephew of mine recently acquired a Winchester Model 100. I did some research for him and found out that there was a recall on these guns . . . the original firing pins were replaced with a new style firing pin. I took his gun apart and it unfortunately still has the original firing pin. I contacted Western Gun Parts, this was their reply: Sorry they never sold those parts, installed them only.

I'm hoping in this case they are mistaken . . . does anyone have any suggestions?
 
I think they mean you can't buy the part but must be installed by a gunsmith. Check your local gunsmith he may even have one looking for a home. He should install it free of charge as it is a Winchester recall and they would reimburse him.

Thanks for the reply . . . hopefully this is the case. I've contacted Epps.
 
A few years back, Winchester was offering a firing pin recall to us north of the border.
Only catch was, you had to send your firing pin down first with the serial number of the rifle.
They then would send a replacement up to you along with a ($30?) cheque to help with
gunsmithing costs.
Not sure if this offer still applies and a search or phone call to Winchester may help with
information regarding this recall.

I have firing pins on hand. I've been doing the recalls for close to 25 years.
Sadly, what Winchester gives you does not cover the cost of shipping the firing pin to them, nor the shipping of the rifle to repair.
 
Thanks for the info Kamlooky. Unfortunately, I checked the Winchester Repeating Arms website and found the following:

Winchester Repeating Arms does not stock parts for guns that have been out of production for more than a few years.

They do provide a few contacts that might stock old parts, but they are all in the U.S.
 
I bought a 100 that did not have the new pin. When (if) you call the 800 number with your serno they will give you the information you need. They sent me the new pin and the check. This isn't really a gunsmith job. I took mine apart to make sure about the pin and put the new one in myself. A little tricky getting the action back in the stock without putting some scratches in the finish but not a hard job at all. Works perfectly now and no worries about the pin. This assumes some basic skill on your part.

They may have treated you differently seeing your in the U.S.
 
It is not likely a Winchester recall any more. Winchester has changed owners several times since they made Model 100's. The recall dates from 1990. Go here and contact one of the Canadian Repair Centres and ask. Add the W's.

Sent my firing pin in a couple of years ago. Had a hell of a time getting the new pin sent back. I live in the country and pick up my mail at a post office box. They will not ship to a PO box. Finally had to write a letter to the president, explaining that many people live out in the country in states such as North Dakota, and pick up their mail in town. Explained that my beautiful, functioning Winchester, was nothing but a stick and a piece of useless pipe without the firing pin. Lady that I had been dealing with for several months, and getting nowhere, phoned me crying about a week after sending the letter. My firing pin arrived shortly after. Give them a street address and save the hassle.
