Cheap ammo

While I agree that premium bullets are good, and certainly have their place, I dont believe in this mentality.

Even cheap bullets today are better than the bullets we had 50 years ago, and I doubt anyone is going to argue the bullets that were used decades ago were not up to the task. Its all about using an appropriate bullet for the job, and cheap ammo is plenty appropriate for deer and smaller.

"he who lives by cheap bullets shall die by cheap bullets", someone once said, I just forget who that was............ anyone? Sadly, you think cheap is qualified for Deer and or anything smaller or otherwise that lives amongst us. What bullet would you hope for, if you were to destined to die by a bullet? I look forward to your answer............. are you really gonna say a cheap bullet would do for you?

I really dont think it makes much difference. If I get shot in the chest with anything, its gonna be a bad day... But a premium bullet in the leg isn't going to increase my chances of dieing over a cheap bullet in the leg.

But Im not a very big animal to take down. Getting deep penetration isn't exactly required on me. Or deer. Bullet placement trumps bullet construction.

oh yeah, there it is again, bullet placement, it's all about bullet placement, well lets hope if it's a bullet for the way that you have to go, let us pray that it is placed very well! Please dear God, don't let it be a leg shot, but a cheap bullet will be just fine placed elsewhere!

For every 10 guys who preach about the merits of so called "premium" bullets there are 10 guys who swear by the cheap stuff...

To top that just ask a question about a Barnes VS Nosler or any of the other expensive bullets out there and you will find even more heated debate...

If everybody had to choose between Trophy Bonded Bear Claw's and Partitions the interweb hunting community would be a mighty boring group.

I don't buy anything "cheap chite" anywhere at anytime, it ain't worth bringing home. I am guilty of buying the odd cheap chite Ronnie's double cheese burgers, though! I ain't never did see any Winchester Silver Tip for 5 bucks a box! Are you chite'n us #5, man? My youngest son has had good success with that stuff when he runs out of Hornady or his own reloads. I blow snot on those blue box trash can stuff stacked a mile high when I walk by them on the shelf.

Yeah that was definitely a good score for me! Hopefully my great grand children down the road are all as good at shooting as I am, at one bullet per year thats 320 years worth of deer.:nest::cool:

Can somebody translate this? Should this guy own guns?

I don't own any guns! I don't like guns! I'm an anti gun guy! Guns should only be in the hands of our Police Force and the Armed Forces!

EDIT: this business of using inferior bullets to kill animals with has got to stop, and stop right now!

What is considered cheap? I really don't see anything "cheap" in the stores price wise? I think there seems to be a conceived notion on here that if it is not a home built load with "designer" components then it does not have the ability to kill game?

Personally I call b.s on that.

Now I have shot some poor quality ammo through the years that I picked up to try out and it too was not necessarily "cheap". It was just poor quality. I learned to avoid it but at the same time not everyone is on a "designer" or "premium" budget and if all I could afford is the lower end of the spectrum in terms of price then that is what would be going into the field with me.

Some on here seem to not understand the concept that this sport has people from all walks of life from just able to afford to go out with a handed down beat up rifle for deer within minutes of home to able to afford the castle at a driven pheasant shoot overseas. That does not mean the person who can just afford to go should be raked over the coals or taken to task for what he can afford any more than the fellow who can afford to purchase the entire ammunition plant chooses not to spend 3X as much on his ammo as the other guy?
