Shot my first Glock today

Picked up a G17 a week ago (new to me) and had it out to the range today for the first time. I gotta say, I don't know how people hate on these pistols so bad; consistent trigger pull,clean break and not much for recoil. The only upgrade this one has is the sights, it has a big dot front and blacked out rear,maybe the best combo I've seen. I couldn't take my eyes off the front sight, made shooting it a ton of fun; "minute of recipe card" my first time out.

Haven't tried one? Give it a shot. I've owned a smith M&P and the triggers don't compare; everything about this pistol just worked for me from the grip angle to the result. I have drank the Kool Aid. And it is tasty.
 
I was the same way :(

Ugliest pistols I own and feel like a plank in the hand, but they shoot and the trigger is better than most other DA/SA and striker pistols, metal or poly.

I'd sell my 9mm 1911 before my glock 34.
 
Yup, I started out with a Gen 3 G17, then a Gen 3 G22 with night sights, a Gen4 G17 with on RMR and then another Gen 4 G17. A 10mm is the next Glock purchase. You can never have to many Glocks in my opinion.
 
Keep in mind that the M&P has the worst trigger in the category, and the Glock has an average trigger for the category.

You've moved up, but you can get better, though.

It's not a bad pistol, and reliable if fed right. A 1911 just doesn't "feel" right in 9mm somehow. Kinda like how .22 doesn't quite feel right in a S&W K frame.

I have the g34 and g41 now. Over all I prefer the 34. The 41 is just a bit more slabby in the hand. I shoot mostly one handed, and Glocks really only feel right if held 2- handed. If you've got shovel like hands like I do the Glocks have got to be one of the best pistols I've ever shot for wrapping 2 hands around.

Unless you are talking about a Custom Center M&P. They have upgraded triggers from the standard M&P. Mine has a nice 5lb pull with a crisp break and short reset.

I have small hands but long fingers. I have no issue with any Glocks, any Gen, any caliber and any grip length. I just love how utilitarian they look and how well they function. You gotta go with a gun that goes bang everytime you pull the trigger and is accurate to boot with any jacketed ammo. My other pistols are fun but when I want to practice something specific, I go Glock!
I know if the S does HTF, Glock will be my go to handgun!

That used to be a big deal, but practically every major manufacturer can do that too, now.

The difference is that the rest of the makers out there have been improving other things about the rest of their guns in the last two decades. Glock has added a double spring and made the mag release button a bit bigger. Other brands have added pretty significant things like, I don't know, making the grip comfortable, for starters.
