Snowing like crazy today, so a range trip was off. What's a fella to do? Go buy another gun!

I found a very cute Chinese SKS to join his Russian counterpart. It looks to be in great shape! Nice rifling, no rust, firing pin block nice and shiny, nice tight fit, and even a nice finish to the stock. The only thing I noticed when I stripped it down, was the piston was seized in the tube. A love tap and she broke free. A nice cleaning and re-lube and reassembly. The result is below...

The new one had a scope mount rail mounted above the rear cover. I ditched that for an original cover. Can't wait to try her out!

Nice! I love the Chinese SKS carbines. China embraced the SKS much more than the Russians ever did, despite them inventing it.

My first SKS (and first gun!) was one exactly like yours. Over 10k rounds, several hikes through rough bush, and general abuse later and it's still 100%. Fantastic little carbines - my opinion, keep yours original!
 
Got it at Milarm in Edmonton. And yes, I am keeping it original. That's why I ditched the funky rear cover with the rail. I always wanted a nice specimen, and now it looks like I have one! We'll see how it shoots. The modified Russian shoots very well (it's a #1). I hope the Chinese one shoots the same.

Between being a cadet and security officer and a gun nut I cannot even count how many dollars I have spent there... I am shocked they are not an advertiser here as well.
 
I'm just glad I found one that I seem to be pleased with. All of the stories I've seen about the supply drying up and those that are left are poor examples, I'm glad my search is over. It won't be a safe queen. I plan on shooting it ....often. Just like the Russian one.
 
Went to the site no deals there. The stuff is priced waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay at the high end price wise. Makes the prices at Collectors Source look good!

It may have something to do with the owners stupid comments regarding gun control and airsoft rifles.

Anyways nice find the chicoms are getting harder to find

Yep nice find. I find the chicoms tend to be more accurate than the russians. It is a shame that he found it at Milarm tho.

Good, honest, law abiding gun owners should not spend any money there.

Exactly the point.

Just giving a heads up to all the 'nutz out there about a specific business. A PAL is not required to purchase a shotgun barrel.
 
Sooner or later the Chinese or someone in this country will find a way to bring them back, they made zillions of them and love to make money! Former soviet bloc countries still have thousands of them too, I am waiting/ hoping they are saving best for last and a couple warehouses full of brand new SKS will be set free to find homes here in Canada!

Well, I took her out this morning in the snow and cold to try her out. I shot 120 rounds at some paper and the gongs at 100 metres. Here's the results from 25 rounds at 100m.

Seems really good at this distance. Rang the gongs 100%...small, med., and large. I really love it now!!
 
Hey, I have a question for you SKS experts. When I stripped down the rifle yesterday, I noticed that there was a bushing inside the top of the charging handle. It's where the recoil spring sits in the bottom of the handle. I've never seen this on any Russian SKS, is it normal on a Chinese one?

All that it would do is compress the spring about a quarter of an inch and maybe offer a bit more push back to the handle and ejection of the spent cartridge and chambering of a fresh round. Should I take it out? Should I leave it in?

If I'm not being clear enough, I guess I could post a picture later today.
 
I am not familiar with the norcs but I don't think it should be there, maybe the person who owned it before you did it, but someone who owns a chinese version will likely tell you for sure! I can tell you all mine work fine without it and fling those shells up to 20 feet!!
