Still need to file my rear sight to height and finish it, but other than that it's pretty much done. Sako 75 action, King barrel, mcmillan in the sako safari pattern, sights by me. (Couldn't find a banded stainless sight so I had to machine my own.) I also made a banded front swivel, but decided last minute not to use it...

Very nice indeed! .... Is that one of the latest stocks you had delivered?

Why not go with the bbl band swivel? How bout some close-ups of those hand made sights?

That is indeed one of the latest stocks. :) I wasn't entirely happy with the bands looks, and I wasn't sure I had enough barrel ahead of the forend for it to look right. I think I have a picture or two of the sights and band before they went on the rifle... If I can find them, I will post.

I wish I could RockChucker but I can't afford a guided hunt and don't know anybody up there to host me. So I will have to pretend our little black bears are your grizzlies, and our little whitetails your caribou. :(

Nice job DG..........your banded front stud may look better if it were a tad narrower..........just a thought. Very nice work, sir !!!!
How did you attach the front sight to the barrel.......stainless doesn't solder worth a chit !!
If you're more a pointy bullet fan like me you might want to try some 270 gn Matrix spritzer RBT in that baby, they sure performed in my 9.3X300............

I actually like the wider bands, but I don't like the actual stud. It's not terrible, but just not quite right for me. I think the stud could have been a touch shorter, and I should have used a bigger radius to tie it into the band on each end.

The front band has a fair amount of friction, a hidden setscrew and loctite 680 all holding it in place. I used the same loctite alone to hold it on a mandril when machining the sight and not only did it hold up, it was a bast*rd to get off afterwards (read lots of heat, beating, and cursing).

I really wanted to solder it on, but you are 100% right - my test pieces looked like hell, and the joint was never sound.

Fine looking rig. Excellent machine work. I also think narrowing that band would be a nice touch (your call).

Thanks to all for the kind words, it was a fun project. I typically work on ultralights, but have been losing interest in them and this was one of my first deviations. I have another project I am collecting/ making parts for, but that's another story for another thread sometime in the future. :)

Thank you for the suggestion, I have never tried matrix bullets. To be honest, I really haven't thought about bullet selection yet - So far I have only been shooting factory lapua ammo, as I ended up with a few boxes in some horse trading about a year ago.

I agree... the wider band gives it a more substantial, balanced look... and I think the barrel band would add to the overlook and functionality as well... JMO.

Fantastic machine work DG. Wish I could do that. VERY classy rifle and will be a great all around big game rifle for North America.

I was struck with how it seems a quite close resemblance and cartridge to one of my own wearing it's MacMillan stock - a Ruger 77 in 35 Whelen with 12 twist. However mine has no custom sights - it's boring bone stock.

Very similar indeed, very nice rifle you have there. I would like to hear your colour and percentage choices you had your stock made with to compare them to mine.

Not that it needs them, but you could buy a set of ruger sights if you wanted a set. I have bought factory ruger sights from WGP in Edmonton on several occasions.
