Strongly considering a .45 carbine but want compatibility with 1911 mag fed pistols for sake of convenience. Anyone heard of the 1911 mag. fed JR .45 hitting the shelves in Canada yet?
Strictly a 1911 guy, not a Glock guy so that's not an option.
And would appreciate any opinions about the JR .45 or any other .45 carbine using a 1911 mag current or upcoming if it's in the wind.
Didn't see anything in the other thread about JR's and the 1911 mag issue.

I don't think any of the carbines use a 1911 mag.

I have a Thureon Defence in 45 that uses glock mags. Works great . No problems.

45 jr is still a finicky beast. Ball ammo is the least problematic. Can't comment on 1911 version, though

There is a Hera Arms 1911 conversion kit. You put a pistol into a frame, frame offers top rail and bottom rail for optics and vertical grip us AR15 stock adapter. I have the Glock version and I love it.

Question: Do the Hera kits actually extend the barrel at all, or is it just a shroud that allows you to use a foregrip, shoulder stock and mount stuff?

Thx

I love my new HK USC in 45 ACP. To heck with a JR Carbine. I love the 8" barrel I installed vs the factory 16".

What are these HK USC .45's going for, who in Canada markets them and is the magazine a proprietary HK mag?.
I would still personally prefer both my pistol and a carbine to share a common magazine.
If what I've heard about the JR's is for the most part an accurate evaluation, this leaves me that much more undecided.
We have all heard the pros and cons to the steel chassis/polymer pistols, Glock just being the front line leader in that market. For civilian use both the Glock and any decent 1911 serve equally well but for those of us (myself included) who just never gravitated to a striker fired pistol and specifically the very rakish grip angle harking to that of a Luger (19 degrees is it? versus the 11 degrees of a 1911), and many of which are literally disposable after 60,000 rounds or so where admittedly a 1911 would require a rebuild much sooner, I'll still be a 1911 devotee. But that's just me coming from an era way before the Glock became a reality and a consumer product.
I guess it's a similar game of preferences where some guys prefer blondes, some prefer brunette's and some will take anything that shows up.
One thing is likely for certain in that the discussion over which pistol is the better one for what ever reasons are used will not end anytime soon.
Still like to hear from more shooters who have experience with any .45 carbines as this thread is just now becoming very interesting.
Thanks to all from this point.
But please carry on with more input.
It's greatly appreciated.

My experience with the JR is that it was very unreliable, when retailer was contacted they said it must be ammunition which is clearly not the case after many different types had already given the same results (FTF, FTE, rounds not chambering)

I would say a HK USC/UMP is your best bet in 45 even though it doesn't use 1911 mags (not sure if anyone does but JR) and it can be made NR with a longer barrel.

I knew a guy that had one of these. It had a 10 or 12 inch barrel and fed of 1911 magazines. Man, it was sweet. It had issues with ejection but I still want(ed) it bad.

It's a fun gun for sure. I have 14" barrel. Mine ejects great and I never even installed the ejector
Not sure if anyone is bringing in the kits anymore

There have been JR's for sale with the 1911 setup in Canada...check the forum sponsors at the top of the forum page. There are usually good deals on the JR 45's on EE and you can buy the 1911 magwell and talk to the gunsmith to get any needed upgrades for free.

I have no idea who the fellow in this picture is....cou: ..but his Enfield conversion takes 1911 magazines.....:yingyang:

International Shootig Supplies a site sponsor has one in store 16" barrel brand new for $2250. Dlask makes an 8" barrel and an 18.5" barrel to make it non restricted. It is primarily polymer and light weight with the barrel trunion being steel along with guides for the bolt etc. It uses a HK USC specific polymer 10 round mag pinned to 5 rounds which costs $250 a mag from wolverine but only $60 each in the US. It sucks being limited to 5 rounds but it's a far more refined pistol caliber carbine than the JR or Thureom plus I hate the way pistol mags look in those carbines. The factory barell on the USC is pretty awesome since it has polygonal rifling which increases barrel life and accuracy. My Dlask 8" barrel does not have polygonal rifling but is still pretty accurate and makes it look really bad ass like a SMG.

IRG has the mags on the US site or you can go with the Hera billet Aluminum 5/20 mags from another retailer at 180 IIRC?

I would greatly appreciate any first hand experience with the 1911 mag version of the JR carbine. Been wanting a carbine using 1911 mags for a long time but I am hoping for comments on feeding and function of this version before dropping the cash. Thanks.

I have been fascinated by the idea of a NR .45acp carbine that uses 1911 mags for years.

My first choice was a Marlin Camp Gun. However I discovered that they are all Restricted. Even a small number that were imported into Canada, modified and registered as NR (in the old LG registry days) have since all been reclassified as Restricted by the RCMP.

I pre-ordered a 1911 mag JR Carbine from Wolverine when they were first announced. However after incredibly long delays (JRC could not get the 1911 mag version to work) and reading about all the issues with JR-Cs in general and even more issues with the 1911 mag version I cancelled that order.

I recently purchased a NR .45acp Enfield conversion, with a 13" barrel on the EE. It works well, but I am not really a bolt action fan, and would still like to find a reliable NR semi auto .45 carbine that uses 1911 mags.
