I have been lusting after a new brush gun for some time now. I've been considering the available options for a few months. I had considered cutting the barrel on my CZ 550. I had also seriously considered having one put together for me, my thought on that was a 20 inch 338-06 barrel on a 98 action. I thought about the t3 battue for a while but it's not crf, so no go.
I've decided on the CZ 550 composite carbine in 9.3x62 it has about a 20 inch barrel, a crf action and a nice stock. There are a couple concerns but they're manageable. I don't really like the single set trigger or the possibility of a plastic floor plate and magazine follower but hey at this point for me, its acceptable.

I have a couple questions. Does anybody have any hard velocity numbers for the 9.3x62 shooting 286 grain factory loads out of a 20 inch barrel ? Do any of you know a shop where there is one in stock ? Last, any thoughts on glass for this rig?
Thanks eh!

From what I understand the Canadian distributor gets our CZ's directly form the Czech Republic. The carbine you're after is a CZ USA product and you'll have to import it from the US. Doesn't make sense to me but this is what the Canadian distributor told me.

You might consider a CZ 550 FS in 9.3.
I have one and although I've never chronographed any loads through it I am more then pleased with its overall performance.
Its a pretty rifle which makes me a bit hesitant about hunting with it and possibly scratching the stock, but after all what good is a hunting rifle if it can't be hunted ?
Oh, did I say the full-stock ones have beautiful balance and superb pointability ?

That would be the one I'd choose, for all the same reasons, but I'd get a NECG ghost ring and a front post sight for it.

I have Warne QD rings on my 1.5 - 5 Leupold so my irons are sighted for 75 yds., but I'd like to know more about this NECG ghost ring you speak of.
Boomer, can you enlighten me on that sight as the timbered area we hunt has a very healthy Cougar population and the damn things like to sneak up behind a hunter and follow which makes me think I should maybe sight-in my irons for a closer distance as maybe 40 or 50 yds.....

If you have to dirt-nap a big kitty you won't really care where the rifle is zeroed. It'll hit minute of feline. I'd leave it zeroed at 75 myself.

Here's a photo of the NECG sight on my ZG-47 . . .

The sight is made specifically for the CZ-550, but it works with the older Brno rifles which use the full width 22mm dovetail. Now NECG offers both a small aperture peep sight and a large aperture ghost ring. They also offer front sight blades that are designed for the CZ front sight, I prefer the rectangular post with a brass face to a bead.

Doesn't look especially rainy.

You've been out of the North too long! We've got nearly a foot of snow on the ground, although the wind is drifting it up now, and leaving unprotected areas bare. Enough river ice has pushed in along the coast that many of the bears are out seal hunting already, in fact yesterday it was white to the horizon. Global warming strikes again!

I tried to get a CZ 550 Kevlar carbine in either 9.3 or 30-06. After getting the runaround I could not get it in Canada.
Next best option was get t FS version and replace the stock with a MCmillian
