Whats the best scope out there for a 50bmg for close to $1000? Once im into the longer ranges and have some time with the rifle im sure i will get into a night force or the same price range (2-3K) but for now only want to spend about a grand on a scope. The rings i have are 30mm. Thanks for any input. Cheers

For $1000 normally I would say a Sightron. But I cant say how it will last on a 50bmg.

But for the cost per shot its hard to say if you could "afford" to shoot with a cheap scope.

Try the Hi Lux/Leatherwood product (Wolverine)...their M-1200 is being re-released for next spring, it would work.

In my opinion - save another $500 and score a nice used Nightforce. Buy once, cry once. The LAST thing I would do with a .50 BMG is buy a 'starter optic' and then move into something better. Just buy a NF (again, used you can score for a good price on the EE all the time) and don't look back. My opinion only.

If it was myself, id buy a 1000$ scope thats lifetime no b.s. Garanteed.
So if your .50 effs it up, replace it under warantee, put the brand new unshot replacement on the EE and then get the better scope.
Only vortex comes to mind for this.

The idea was to mount a scope for the time being untill funds recoup from the cost of rifle, rings, ammo etc.. and then install that scope on one of my other rifles and then buy the longterm optic for the 50bmg. Just was hoping somebody has done the same with success and wanted to share it. Cheers

Or buy an optic that you never need to use the warranty. :).
I've replaced two vortex scopes (Razor HD and Viper PST) under warranty. Both BARELY used on .223s. Fool me once...

if you're not stretching out, spend the $250 when you can find a fixed 10x Bushnell and use that, will also help the funds recoup faster so you can get a NF on that bad boy

For $1000 I'd probably pick a Sightron though the Vortex warranty is appealing. For me though what I would really do is to save some more money and buy a Nightforce.

Sightron warranty is valid if you have the paperwork to prove it came into country legally. I have sent a bushnell 5-15 tactical back for repair once already but I did not need any paperwork.

Or just an idea, find a dealer that deals with tactical capital corps that carries a high end scope.
Finance it.
I will get flammed for this, but even when i have cash in hand ill finance stuff and keep cash for rainy days.

As others have said buy once, cry once. I hate to be that guy but if a 50 bmg rifle was in my budget I'd be sure that an excellent optic would also be in that same budget. I'd be thinking NF, S&B, Leupold Mk4/6, USO, etc.

Well I'm not going to knock anything that vortex or sightron has going right now, I would not be using either on my 50 unless I already had it at home and couldn't wait to shoot. Go with a nightforce, S&B , US optics etc.... Wait for a month or two, save another 250 every month and let the deal fall into your lap that's too good to pass up, believe me, they are there if your quick enought to get them, I have had four unbelievable deals this year alone, just by having the cash in hand and being patient. Good luck.

Vortex - you will break it with recoil and they will replace it or fix it. After 2 times you will sell it brand new again. )
