Got My Alaskan Scout: Doesn't Look Right

i returned mine and i see them on the website for 1250 when i asked if i can get a replacement wanstalls words where "There can be no replacement or exchange at the factory. You are welcome to return the rifle to us if you will not be satisfied with the Alaskan Scout as it is a defective rifle" so how are they selling more if no more exist….

Poorly designed junk for custom gun prices - no thanks.
Get a BLR take down in 450 Marlin.
Beautiful rifle for $300 less money.

The screw head condition is very poor as well. Soft screws???, you can see the screw(s) are deformed with the wrong screw driver size and/or over tightened.....

They are selling the ones that were returned:slap:

Speaking from experience, Wanstalls is rock solid first class service hands down. Some ###X steel wool would have probably done the trick. There should be marks from loading a round, guns are usually test fired at factory.

coming from a guy who probably only owns a 200$ crappy 22.
No one with common sense would make a statement like that

yes I'm just going to take some steel wool to my 1425 dollar brand new rifle… i guess when i have a rusty pos gun i need to get rid of i know who to PM ill throw in the steel wool for free

A lot of Chiappa bashing here and because of the chroming issue it is agreed, warranted...But just a few points from us to clarify a few things.

1) We were big fans of the Chiappa line and we still are despite the issues on our last run. We have been carrying Chiappa with great success over many years which enabled this project to get off the ground in the first place. Of the 60 guns we ordered in two ship dates, all 30 on the first were in great condition and were a huge success but unfortunately we have found 7-8 on this last run to have some finish issues and were not cleaned after test firing.

2) We offered a $100 rebate from Chiappa (which we found to be unfortunately quite low) so we matched it ourselves for anybody who wanted to keep the rifle with finish issues. Alternatively we offered a full refund.

3) At the time the issue was posted on CGN we only had one rifle in stock (we held for possible warranty claim) to replace defective rifles. Most everyone who had the defective rifle would have preferred to switch for a replacement but since it was a limited run we were only able to do this for 1 customer.

4) We did check two rifles upon delivery to us before we shipped out the remainder. They looked great and actions were smooth as all Chiappa products do, so we saw no need to check the rest of the remainder of the rifles as we have not seen or were expecting any finish issues. As we have future projects in the pipeline, we WILL QC every rifle moving forward.

5) The Takedowns ARE tight and are designed to broken in. If they were made too loose, im sure there would be a lot of complaining. I personally have a 16" version and after some breaking in and lubing it is quite slick now.

6) Also we did have 1 Takedown become available on Monday of this week as a customer who had a deposit on one decided to back out, so we sold it at full retail as it was is in great condition. Unfortunately we have refunded everyone who has had previous issues.

7) And yes we do have the returned ones available for sale @ $200 off if anyone is interested. Of the 5 we have here, we only pulled one that we thought was not fit for sale and the others are in decent shape. For those who want a bush gun that may and will get banged up, the 12", all weather take down with skinner sights is still a pretty good deal at just over 1k.

Obviously we did not want to see these guns arrive in this condition let alone go out in this condition, so we learned for next time! They are still a kick ass little lever gun and we will continue to work with Chiappa on some new and exciting projects in the New year! For those who have ordered and are happy with their rifles we appreciate your business, for those who have returned there rifles for a refund we apologize on the behalf of Chiappa as this was not our intent.

Anyways just some info from us on the issue...

Hear! Hear! Well said! Every one has a right to their opinion, but for the people that didn't purchase one of the scouts in the latest batch their opinion is just that( theirs). I to was sadden by the op's fire arm that he received, bad luck of the draw. The one that I received has some small blemishes. But I bought it to use, and it does nothing to the function of the gun. Sure! As everyone else we want it as nice as possible, but its a gun for god sakes it's going to get dinged up/ scratched and dropped . Do hope this thread is put to rest. Enjoy them for what there made for. FYI, I just bought a second one,it's in the mail.:HFU:

Nice to see a retailer come back with an honest, level headed response to an issue like this. Well done Wanstalls!

I agree !

I also have a Chiappa M1-9mm which I bought from Wanstalls and am very pleased with the rifle ,no problems whatsoever.

Pity it had to come to all the product bashing though ,but I do agree with the OP ,some things are just not acceptable and this was one them ,but Gary did make things right to the best of his abilities ,and that`s a classy way to do things.

Car salesmen of the world love you, and are overjoyed to take your money...for the rest of us, well, we just expect a product as advertised for the money we pay. Wanstalls has tried to make it right, they have now put processes in place to protect the rest of us in the future, but the fault is Chiappa's. If I buy a brand new rifle (or car) that is what I expect regardless if I'm going to bang it up in the future, and no, $200 off isn't enough. I bought new and that's what I want, not a refund leaving me without the rifle, or a clearly used rifle at an elevated price. At the time of purchase an individual has already accepted the trade of money for product, at that point in time it is the businesses onus to provide what it is advertising. If it can't, it's a bad business. Chiappa is a bad business. Until recently Wanstalls was a bad business as these procedures weren't in place at that time and a reasonable person would expect them to be in place. People got stung and that is nothing to make light of.

Got my second Scout this week. It was one that was returned . I would guess the person that returned it had gotten spooked by all the bad mojo that was thrown about by the trolls. Any hey! It is in great shape, like brand spanking new no dings or discoloration of the finish. Just out standing as it should. And to top it all off sold my first one at a profit. Hey the guy made my an offer and I snapped it up! All the drama and trash talk didn't faze me. Came out on top! Great gun total happy. Next ! Feeding the pig, man is it fun shooting water bottles they just explode.R:d:

I was extremely sad returning mine as it was in about 7/10 condition but I thought it was a well made gun as stated previously. I did say I wanted one badly and I wish that you had of contacted me Gary when the other guy with a deposit backed out as I would have purchased it as discussed in our phone call.

Oh well, my loss. Guess I should have been much more aggressive.
