Coyote hunting opportunity

Are you allowed to bait them? Read another thread about a gadget that calls them using fox sounds, is that something I should look into?

Before you buy a new gun, you need to do two things.

1. Go see the property and get a sense of how long the shots may be. 250-300 yards, I'd pick a .223. It has more reach than that, but takes a little more practice. .243 would be my second choice, but the step-up in noise and power will make sure every neighbor for miles knows you're hunting! :) The other thing is, .243 has enough recoil to guarantee you won't see the impact through the scope. I prefer TO see the impact.

2. Gauge your interest in the girl, and shop accordingly. :) If you want to impress her, her dad....maybe shopping for a coyote rifle is a good idea. Or at least, a good excuse. "I dig you SO much that I bought myself a gift" lol Should work...no?

All good advice here! ^^^^

I'm using a .22-250 for coyotes but a .260 Rem is my back up for the coyote rig. Both are Remmy M700's. Since we snowshoe and move around a few times, the sporter barrel profile does it for my hunting needs. :D

Do a "search" for coyotes all around the forum and you will be surprised at how much experience is here to guide you!

Tell me about it. Here i am with a .308 ready to roll on this opportunity, double so because i can't afford a membership to a range, which all have year long waiting lists to boot, and this comes along in my lap and i can't really take advantage of it, short of buying a new gun, which i also can't afford at the moment.

Lol at number 2, have to get past the wife first lol. Should I start introducing her as my "current wife" or my "first wife"? Lol
 
Dude, I'm in Guelph and I have a .22-250 & 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser ready to roll. Both legal in southern Ontario. I even have a selection of mouth calls for coyotes and can show you how to use them if you want. PM me!

You can still target shoot with the 308 at the farm...you just can't "hunt" with it.

It really makes no sense. I use a 6.8 SPC which uses a. 270 bullet..its a deadly little round with little recoil so you can watch the hits..i hunt in the same area...pretty rich in coyotes these days for sure
