Did these dogs ruin my hunt for the next little while?

No deer tonight, found out why. Got out of the stand and thought we heard a woman screaming off in the distance. Then it was closer, then it was in a few spots, then it was an all out howl scream fest of coyote's out towards where we walk out of the bush. We were both pretty freaked out, but probably because I have never heard these Demon Dogs like this in person EVER and now its pitch black out and we have to walk out of the bush towards these f#&*%s. Got home and checked out the camera pics and this doesnt look good at all. Hope they move on and the deer keep showing up.

This was today mid day, should I even bother going out tomorrow morning?

I'd shoot them if I saw them...

Where I am hunting, I have not seen a deer in the 2 week rifle season! The landowner says that all the folks in his area are talking about all the coyotes...

I'm hopeful that I will get a chance at a deer in the archery or muzzle loader season, but honestly the numbers are WAY DOWN in our area. My thoughts on it is that the coyotes have been feasting on deer fawns & when you lose them, you lose the next generation...

Coyotes = shoot on sight!

LOL, it was a cross bow in my hands and a compound bow in my buddies hands, and it sounded like a LOT of them all going nuts at the same time. And it was pitch black out with no moon light at all, and just a single head lamp light LOL. And like I said, I have never been around this sort of sound, or pack, I live in the city, and I havent deer hunted for several years, the dogs were not like this last time I hunted deer. Heck, I never heard or seen coyote's in the bush ever...
 
Jay, if we see them, we plan to "kill em all" or at least kill the ones we see in daylight conditions. I'd rather NOT see them because if I see them, I dont think seeing a deer will be possible.
 
I walked out one morning, pitch black, One started singing a couple hundred yards to my left, then one to my right, two started up behind me, then the fifth started. I swore he was in my stand. So yes, that is a unique feeling walking surrounded by the howls. And I also saw no deer that day.
 
You don't need to be freaked out by coyotes... just go about your business and they will go about theirs... BUT, part of your business is shooting everyone you get a shot at... legal light of course. The deer are used to coyotes and not terribly fearful of them, except at fawning time, get out there and hunt. I have watched two coyotes mousing in a field right in the middle of a herd of deer feeding on alfalfa...

I wouldn't worry about them spooking your deer. I get pictures of coyotes on my deer cams all the time, and see coyotes mousing on the same fields that deer are feeding on. Call in lots of deer using coyote sounds too. I don't think that an adult deer that isn't disadvantaged by a wound, injury, body condition or snow conditions is even scared of them. Fawns, the wounded and the weak are in big trouble.
 
I would imagine if they were going nuts like you described it might have an effect on the deer activity.

This is WMU 88, there is no rifle or even shotgun hunt for deer, I assume no rifle for small game or coyotes too. IF I could use rifle on them, I would bring my T97 to the stand.
 
Unless your local municipality where you are hunting has some sort of a no discharging a firearm law your good to go on shooting coyotes. If it makes you feel any better there has never been a documented case of a coyote/coyotes eating a bow hunter.!! No worries.
 
Since when is a WMU 88 a no discharge of firearms? I used to hunt it lots up until a few years ago? It may not have a rifle season for deer but it is ok for everything else to the best of my knowledge and if memory serves falls into the .270 and under calibre restriction.

yes, as post #17 says, it will send a cold chill down your spine or do worse for city folk:p
We had a poke at one in the day light the other day, but he was running full speed at about 400+ yards out. Using a 260, had it been a standing shot, there would have been one less yote around and some happy birds having a feast.

Deer and coyote share the same habitat all year for the most part and they aren't going to start getting freaked out by coyotes simply because deer season opens on a specific day. If deer were driven off by the sound of coyotes there wouldn't be any deer anywhere...
