Officially it's CLIP, not magazine

Look at it, it's obvious as to how it's used. It fits over the magazine from the top and with the magazine base in the palm of your hand you pull down with your two strongest fingers and drop the rounds in as you go.

Or I would guess never having used one, LOL!

Maybe you could have the mag base on a table-top and use your fingers the same way to depress the follower and place the rounds in the magazine.

Easiest way to do it with this one is to, as you said, fit it over the magazine, place your thumb under the magazine base-plate and with your index and middle finger pull the loader down. Friction helps you keep it and the follower, down while you feed the rounds.

I prefer this one,
HKS_Loader.jpg.
Friction keeps it down while you load your rounds.

Works like that, slides over the top, pushed down the dimple. Saves you using your finger. I had one like this for my 22/45 mags

Where'd you find this one?

ebay.ca Search for
hks mag loaders for .22

They also have an ad inside most Guns and Ammo and/or Handguns magazines.

I bough three of them and keep on me at most times.
When there are pretty lady shooters (who look like they
don't want to destroy their fingernails) I offer to loan one
for the session ---always reminding them that I'd like to
have them back.

I hate shooting 22LR without loaders. I just made a loader this morning for my GSG mags.

Funny thing is the GSG spring is so forgiving, I have an Uplula with shims fitted
inside (glue and screw) that work beautifully but that I almost never use. I always
use the Mark 22/45 HKS loader though.

Never saw this version before. Simple and ingenious, but needs a spring.
The other two versions need no springs or working, movable (thus breakable) parts.
