Did these dogs ruin my hunt for the next little while?

I know the feeling op describes, had it happen to me and a buddy, pitch black nothing but blanks in rifles and bayonet on a 550 cord, we spooked them, sneeki people we were, the hell they raised was deffening in the middle of the night.

It is a BOW ONLY area for deer hunting, no shotgun for deer season at all, so I had assumed (I know, bad idea to assume anything) no firearms at all except maybe waterfowl, but then water fowl is federal regulated, not provincial.

Now if rife hunting is legit for yotes in 88, then Orange would be a must, so I'll have to search for them on a seperate hunt all together with the rifle, and just stick em with an arrow if they trot by my stand during a deer hunt.

As for all the advice and info in regards to not worrying about it, THANKS. Checked out my game cams this morning and there was a new buck hitting up the same pile of apples that the yote pissed all over the previous day. Lots of doe's out at the stand too during the night and had 3 doe's come see me this afternoon, toooo bad they were all down wind of me and caught something they didnt like :(

Ya, just read the regs again on this, cool, open all year on coyotes and rifles UP TO .275 are legal. So after deer season, time to buy some decoys for coyotes and see if I can smash some with the T97 :D
 
I've had a friend shoot a coyote and deer in the same field on rifle season opening morning. This year he got a coyote in one field and an hour later got a deer 250 yard away in an adjoining field. The deer and coyotes cross paths all the time.
Yes the coyotes howling and calling can be spooky if you aren't used to them. Oft times they sound like a bunch of women or teenage girls laughing it up. Gets entertaining once you are comfortable with them. The 'pack' is a family unit of parents and pups so I have heard an MNR biologist explain.
 
I would not worry about the coyotes, it is a rare deer hunting day when I do not hear coyotes or find their tracks as well as wolf tracks here in Manitoba, and if given the chance it can turn quickly into a dog hunt!!!
 
Okay, so since there is NO rifle or shotgun season in WMU 88 for ANY large game, deer, moose (no moose here) or bear (also no bear here) then I should be able to hunt Coyotes in full camo even during the deer bow season?

If that is the case, my next question would be hunting 2 different species at the same time with 2 different weapons, Bow for the Deer and the Rifle hanging up in my tree with me for the Coyotes? We have guys at our moose camp that have 2 gun boots on their ATV, a 410 for birds and a high power for moose, would be the same thing wouldnt it?
 
Just talked to a nice fellow at the MNR and he said since the deer season in 88 is a BOW ONLY area, it is advised to only have the Bow with me. He said it would just cause question and possibly confrontation with a CO if I were to run into one and be hunting Deer in a BOW ONLY area while having a rifle on my person at the same time.
 
Coyotes didn't ruin your hunt at all. The deer are still there, so are the Coyotes. Next time shoot the dogs! Sometimes the dogs will run them right to your tree stand.

I got this buck last Sunday, 15 minutes after my buddy put 2 coyotes down out of a pack of 5 less than 800 meters from where I got him.


 
Well, did the research today with the Bylaw office for Niagara Falls and was emailed their map that outlines where you can and where you can not gun hunt in Niagara Falls. There is a very VERY small section and it is NOT where I am bow hunting for deer. In fact, I'm pretty sure its all private property, which adds yet another hoop for using my rifle for coyotes around my place. Looks like I'll have to set up with just the bow or cross bow for these damn dogs throughout the year when I'm missing hunting and have free weekends to get out and look for them :(

Correct, as there is no controlled hunt (shotgun or muzzleloader) in your WMU you will never be required to wear orange in that WMU. It's recommended while walking around during turkey season, but the law does not require it. If you decide to go hunting for any animal in the neighboring WMU's during a controlled firearm hunt for deer you will have to wear orange while the controlled hunt is on.


As for carrying the rifle for coyote while bow hunting for deer, that's a no go and is against the rules:

Firearms

Big game, including deer, may only be hunted with a
firearm (this includes bows). When hunting deer, you may
use or carry a firearm of the type permitted for hunting deer
at that time in that Wildlife Management Unit (WMU). For
example, when hunting deer during a bows-only season, you
may use or carry only bow hunting equipment; you may not
carry a rifle or shotgun for hunting other species.

You're allowed to use anything up to a .270 for hunting coyotes any time of the year, including the time when the archery only season is open for deer. You can carry a .270 and shoot coyotes with it all year, except when you're going bow hunting for deer.
