Yes, read the regulations especially the Provincial Park called Mount Maxwell...it has been closed to the discharge of firearms for 20 years at least.
Rob
Ok, I was wrong Mount Maxwell Provincial Park is not closed to the discharge or firearms period.

The areas closed and open are in the BC Hunting Regs and you will find ALL the information you need to know legally about hunting there.
Regardless if it is a cross bow or a firearm Hunting is Hunting and it is closed in Mount Maxwell Provincial Park read one area of Crown Land on SSI.
There are homes in excess of $7 million dollars on that rock that are anywhere from 2 acres to 25 acre parcels of land .
The summer population swells to 20 thousand residents and the winter population droops to 3 thousand give or take a long weekend.
You will also need a Southern Gulf Island Hunting Permit and proof of insurance of $100,000.00 liability insurance.
Either you (the OP) are trolling or really has no idea what it takes to hunt on SSI.
Given the fact you have the idea that a rifle (for range) would be acceptable on SSI or your cross bow, two very distinctive and different tools for hunting.
Go look up the regulations for hunting in BC Region one and do some reading and the come and ask for input on what you may or may not understand.
BTW, I am not lecturing you, I am telling you what I know about the Island and have hunted there many years ago when the population was less than 10 thousand residents...
The regulations are very clear for SSI, what it doesnt tell you is that there are some granola munchers who welcome PETA to their table and there are those who enjoy PETA at their table, but they also enjoy hunting those deer that are so very tasty that they do not tell PETA they hunt them.
So, does your buddy own a piece of the rock and if so how much land does the family own cause thats about as close as your going to get to hunting on SSI as an outsider.
