If someone wanted to accomplish this, how many calibers are there? I'm only talking about commercially available, nothing to exotic or rare. I have a list so far;

.17 HMR

.22 LR

.22 Short/Long *secondary caliber

.22 WMR

.32 ACP *Skorpion, technically a "rifle"

.380 ACP (9x17mm Browning)

.38 Super (9x23 +P)

.357 SIG

.357 S&W Mag (9x33 R)

.38 Spec. (9x29.5mm R)

5.7x28mm *FN

.30 Luger

.30 Mauser

.30 Carbine

7.62x25mm *DA-762 or Tokarev

9x18mm Makarov

9mm Para (9x19mm)

9mm Win (9x23mm) * custom 1911

10mm Auto

.40 S&W

.400 COR-BON *custom Les Baer

.41 Rem Mag

.44-40 Win

.44 Rem Mag

.44 S&W Special *secondary caliber

.45 GAP

.45 ACP

.45 LC

.410 ga. *secondary caliber

.460 S&W Mag

.45 Sch. *secondary caliber

.454 Casull

.460 Rowland *custom Wilson Combat

.45 Super *seconday? custom?

.50 GI *Guncrafter

.50 AE

.500 S&W Mag

So far, there's 30 different calibers requiring at least 24 guns. Anyone here have any thoughts on this? Any calibers that could be added? Any removed?

Let me know what you think!

Also, if you like, list which gun you would choose for each caliber as you preference/first choice. (I'm still working on that)

*edit: list has grown to 37 calibers!

You missed the .41 Remington Magnum....I just got a S&W Model 57 and I'm itching to get some loads made up for it. Elmer Keith and friends dreamed this one up to fill the 'gap' between the .357 and .44 Mag (which I think they also dreamed up)....The perfect answer to a question nobody was asking, but hey! Why not?

Missed 9x18 Makarov!

.45ACP has to be represented by a Colt 1911A1...

I'd suggest a classic 9mm rep; a Luger if you have 12.6 or 12.7 access; a P38 or Browning if you don't.

There are a lot on the list I would not buy and a few that you cannot buy unless your 12(6) I think. The ones I wouldn't consider are: .17 HMR as the .22 Mag is close enough, I don't think you can buy the .32 due to prohib status, the .38 ACP as well, the 5.7 x28FN is cool but the .22 Mag is awful close in tests, I wouldn't get a .45 GAP or the .45 SCH but I'm not familiar with this calibre, The .50 GI I would forget but I would get a .50 AE maybe.

What I try to do, for myself, is have three guns in a calibre. One is a revolver and a semi auto. I don't have this in all calibres but I do in a few.

what would you consider exotic or rare?

you could maybe just collect one gun in every .380 or .450 size? but your not even close to all the Cals handguns have been chambered for. your talking thousands.

Yes Smith & Wesson made them for sure.

Graydog

Yup and Kel Tech makes one also. When most of us are trying to have as many different firearms as possible for one or two common rounds, I am glad that there are still some that dare to dream.

So does Taurus.

Though I'm not quite as determined and ambitious as Bad Lieutenant, I shoot 13 different handgun calibres. Reloading makes the dream that much more attainable :d

You can buy plenty of handguns in "prohib" calibres, they're not as popular, as many guns chambered for such are often prohibited by barrel length as well.

Very good research. .32 is prohibited in Canada and the 410 is 2 3/4 only if not mistaken. This is hard to find where I live. Must order to get it.
