Hunting on Saltspring Island BC

A lot of the old island "hippies" have no problem with hunting. The granola munching. gumboot crowd aren't the problem. Most of them are pretty in tune with the damage the high population of deer is doing to their "crops" and Subaru bumpers. The problem is the wealthy urbanites that have taken over the island in the last two decades. There is also a few individuals that live up in the hills that are truly nuts. Like "Deliverance" crazy. I've seen some pretty weird stuff up on Bruce and Tiam.

Ohh man!!!!!!

Brings back a memory of having to back about 1/4 mile down a narrow road after being threatened by a swearing Neanderthal weilding a sledge hammer and accompanied by a growling pack of hounds!

gotta wonder sometimes!!!!

Hey Lucky, what part of get off my lawn did you not understand????

Hey Everyone, so I am wondering if ayone knows about whether or not it is legal to hunt on saltspring island on Crown land with a rifle- I remember when I was their some local said you could only do it on pvt land with rifle, but bows and crossbows could be used on crown, however after looking at the regs I noticed their is only one area- the Ganges- which is a no shooting area. If anyone knows better, or has a farm with too many deer on saltspring, Let me know! Gonna have my crossbow as well, but it is nice to have some range-

So, how did this go over?
More time drinking beer or???

Some of those old hippies have no problem chasing you with their deer rifle for sure.

There are much better gulf islands to hunt on, I don`t know about the last few years but mayne and gabriola come to mind. There is another island with a bunch of them in the area, maybe denman?

I remember my Father telling me stories of him and his brothers sheep hunting on Laskiti(spelling) Island during the late 50s/early 60s. Southwest coast of Van Isle(?) Did this for years. Have never heard of anyone else hunting there. Might be an alternative if possible. Anyone else?

found a nice farm first day asked the farmer for permission, no issues. Didn't see any bucks while I was there tho... Had a few stares walking down the street between the farm and buddys place in full camo with a crossbow. guy working at friends house called my buddy up whos place we were staying at an said the army had showed up. saw a ton of does tho. was somewhat late in the season tho, and was rainy weather

them islands in the Georgia straight are full of draft dodging hippies. Had word with them on Hornby island as well as salt spring. Most are nice peaceful people that want to be left to live their live the way they want and don't interfere with others way of life. Like ever thing in life their are extremists.
