10/22 out of box accuracy what can be done ?

You find working a .22 bolt annoying? I had a Savage in .22 magnum and I now have a CZ 455 FS. Both have great smooth bolts. That Savage in .22 magnum was something else. centerfire hunting rifle accuracy out of a rimfire. Made in Canada too. Sadly had to sell it due to a University education that hasn't gotten me anything other than a useless degree.

I haven't seen a stainless steel Dlask threaded receiver yet, but I prefer Volquartsen to any Dlask that I have seen. The factory Volquartsen rifles also hold their value a lot better, than do it yourself builds.

i guess if a person was into flipping guns that would be a concern.
ive never sold a gun in my life so i wouldnt know.

im not saying VQ are bad guns, i run a lot of their parts and i plan to purchase one of their full package 10/22's here some day.
just where i am right now i prefer to build my own, little more pride and a whole lot more fun.... some days.

I sold two guns last week but I'd also go Volquartsen for sure. Having said that my 10/22 only has about 250 bucks of mods in it. But for accuracy I quite like the CZ 452 Lux. Solid, accurate, great metal sights and costs about 6 or 7 hundred bucks if you can find one.

ive never sold a gun in my life so i wouldnt know.

I have owned well over 200 firearms, I buy and sell firearms on a regular basis. Some I keep for extended periods, and some I sell. If I kept every firearm that I buy, I wouldn't have enough room to store them, and I would not have been able to afford to try so many different firearms in my lifetime.

Im curious, how easily is the barrel replaced ? Any one have 1 inch groups at 100 yards ?

Not entirely sure if I want a semi 22 or a savage bolt 22.

All I do is target, I like to have good groups. Working the bolt on a 22 gets a little annoying after a while.

is 100 yards to far to ask from a ruger 10/22?

is 100 yards to far to ask from an SR-22 ?

The barrel is easily replaced on a 10/22, or you could just buy one with a good barrel to begin with. I bought a Ruger VLEH 10/22 recently, tuned it up a bit and just added a Dlask adjustable V block and a Kidd bolt buffer. Rifle well under $600 plus about $40 worth of extra parts, and it is capable of 1 inch groups at 100 with CCI Velocitors and might even do better with match ammo-

Optics were an ancient 3X9 Vari - X II Leupold I had laying around on Burris Signature Zee Rings and a Dlask rail. Rings and rail under $100 and 40 plus year old scope free. I am sure a good bolt gun would do better, but I am happy with this.

some really good info for both sides. I have a good optic I plan on taking off my 223 because its getting an upgraded optic soon. I shouldn't say its "annoying" working the bolt, I just find larger cals much more enjoyable in bolt actions. Im a bolt guy, I don't own a single semi auto. Sold my sks vz and XCR-L because it just wasn't for me.

From what im looking at, I think ill likely spend the 500 on a nice bolt 22 and slap my optic on it and away I go. Not much of a huge tinkering kind of person. I like out of box shooters.

I run both VQ and Kidd 10/22's, by far I prefer the "feel" of the Kidd parts I use for a personal preference, but in terms functionality they both are fantastic, i'd recommend both. Whatever's cheaper I suppose

out of the box with no tinkering, id suggest Savage.
i picked up a Savage BTVSS in left hand and slapped a $100 scope and $20 rings on it and its more accurate then i am.

you could go with a Ruger Rimfire American but that gun only comes with stock light barrel.
the savage while more money comes with a heavy barrel and that helps a lot.
think my Ruger Rimfire was $315 and my Savage was $553.
if you picked up a ruger rimfire then youd have to put on a boyd stock, theres $100 and youd need a bull barrel and i dont think anyone makes them yet.
so youd be $415 and no bull barrel.

THAT said, out to 100 i see no difference between the 2 guns.
past 100 yes the savage has the ruger.
ruger does have a far better magazine though.

My Marlin 795 shoots well, but I think they held a contest to see who could come up with the worst trigger ever put on a production rifle and awarded the contract to the winner.....my 30 year older Marlin has a way better trigger,in fact all my older 22's have better triggers than the 795

I love my rimfires through and through...but for the life of me, I can't ever see myself dumping so much money into a lesser 22 to get it shooting MOA. To each his own, but if little groups @ 100 yards are your goal with a rimfire, most 17HMRs will do that out of the box. You seldom have to try more than one or two types of ammo to get it there, too. Some people enjoy the journey, some people enjoy the destination...so...I'm not criticizing, I'm just sort of puzzled when I read threads like this. I don't think .22LR shines as a 100 yard shooter (regardless of the gun/ammo) but if I was hung-up on the idea...I'd probably be shopping for a heavy-barrel CZ or better yet, an Anschutz. Ammo the gun prefers, excellent technique, good glass, no wind, and biting your lip just the right way...and you'll be off to the races. :)

For the record...my next rimfire will likely be a Ruger American in .22WMR, but I have no illusions about the gun being able to keep them in the 1" ring @ 100 yards.

I enjoy the destination, ive been looking seriously at 17... The cost though, I shoot ALOT. I mean its not unusual for me to plow through 80 match 223 rounds 40 match 308 and then blow a couple hundred surplus rounds in a day. I was hoping to replace the dirty cheap surplus with clean, all round 22 fun but still have accuracy... the surp does not have that lol.

Go for the CZ. If you want to scope it, del sins add in the EE has a 453 varmint. It's a fully adjustable centerfire trigger with a set option. I find that to be a very comfortable gun to shoot both in the field and from the bench. The trigger is easily worth the extra $100 from the 452 or the 455 cost. A timney costs more, and you have to put it in yet. The set option is so nice for targets, or long shots on gophers. Mine like blaser ammo if it's available.

Not a huge fan of wood stocks. Does the savage stainless steel bull barrel come in any other stocks then they boyds ?
