Straight Pull AK rifles

A dealer (Trigger Wholesale) made a big deal about a magical new tactical rifle guaranteed to knock the s**t right out of your ass. Then someone leaked info that lead us to believe it was a Tantal (AK variant) that would be NR. Turned out to be a straight pull bolt action for $1000 and pretty much everyone was disgusted after thinking Canada would finally have an affordable AK that would be non restricted to boot only to learn it was an abortion.

The thing is, if we could get them legal here and show people that just because it is an AK styled rifle it is not going instantly explode babies' heads...

Nevermind, that would be logical: something Antis are not.

Sorry I mentioned it.

"Cause I can't have one" is not the reason I want a few AKs. The Enfield, Mauser, Mosin, SKS, etc are all out dated but they sell like hot cakes. All are inferior to modern rifles but we love them and buy them in huge numbers. The AK is no different. Sure, no gun is everyone's favourite and if you don't have much interest in the AK that's cool. I don't like the KRISS and wouldn't spend a dime to get one but their owners are happy campers and I support that. Truth is the AK is as you say and I still would love to own a few variants. And not because I can't get one. They're heavy, have crude sights, a haneous fire control, and shoot like a hot mini 14 but I'd love it like it was my child.

When you look beyond the whole "I want one because I can't technically have it" argument, the AK is inferior and far less evolved to some of the NR options we now have available (for target practice / hunting purposes, of course). Plus a lot of these new options also cost a hell lot less than even a stripped M78 receiver would, not to mention a complete Valmet!

I'm sure that if you gave the antis of 2014 the choice between prohibiting some clunker-ass semi auto "AK variant" vs. some of the high tech "scary" bullpups & co we now have on the market, they wouldn't think twice about it. They would let you have a semi AK in a heartbeat if it meant taking away your T97, Tavor, etc... Truth is, the AK has outlived its' usefulness for the modern military and is no longer considered "the best choice", unless you're a child soldier somewhere in Liberia and your warlord only has 50$ to spend on arming you. Even the Chinese PLA, with their millions of soldiers to arm, have moved on from the AK design in favor of something new and more suitable to the 21st century. Comfort and versatility are the key today. That is true for soldiers, sports shooters and hunters alike, hence why we see so many civilian versions of those new designs. Not that anyone's complaining (except for the ever fear-mongering antis).

Best thing is, with the use of modern polymers, these new age rifles can be built faster and cheaper than the all steel & wood dinosaurs of the 1950's, à la AK. All in all, prohibited or not, we're not missing much. Think of the semi-auto AK as an SKS with a better looking factory stock, that's all... lol!

;)

You and I both know we can safely enjoy AKs and nobody would die because of it. We know this cause we already own surplus military technology and nobody died because of it. Hopefully one day the anti's will put that together without screaming for aggressive attacks on their countrymen thinking they're saving the countrymen that they like better. One day.

There's nothing wrong with the AK platform even today, when comparing apples to apples, and a lot of those new "high tech" rifles use the successful basic AK operating principles {long stroke piston, relatively heavy action, overgassed, "overpowered" springs throughout, generous clearances etc.

the death of the AK is greatly exaggerated .

it will still be in battle long after we are all gone .

Id rather have no AK than a SPBA AK, I do not want this sh*t style action becoming the ignorant Liberals solution to their firearm phobia and our semi-autos.

As if they were looking for a substitute. They'd never say one is better than the other, or a compromise. They just paint guns as different types of evil.

They'd scream about the spbar, as it looks like an AK, and they'd be thinking we were getting away with something.

People think "well if we can bring these AK's in as bolt action, the antis will see how they are no different from any other rifle! They'll come to their senses and eventually we'll be allowed to own AK's again right?" No, when they take notice how the "terrifying and horrible" AK has been made anemic its only a few years after Trudeau passes his LGR again its possible that they will be banning most semis, and pushing for this conversion on what they don't send to the smelter. I sure as sh*t don't want to be applying for a class "B" license in 10 yrs like they have in Australia. It wont lose us the war against the Hoplophobics but it will definitely lose us ground trying to get Ar's and AK's in like this.
The Liberals have already lost their precious gun registry once, all of that ill gotten data supposedly lost. I doubt they are looking to put things back to the way they were before, they'll be swinging for the fences this time using Australia as an example. They won't let their gun control to be abolished by the next conservative party to put a PM in office, they'll be trying to grab and destroy whatever they can, to do away with our sport for good.

Yeah, I see your point. I'd probably get one too, just for bragging rights. But would I consider it the "ultimate rifle" I can get on the Canadian market today? Not so much... ;)

Well I could have work great if,
1- DON'T mislead the potential buyers about your new super secret project. Infact just keep the dam thing under wraps.

2- ask a reasonable price for what your selling. 300-500$ would have ben more realistic for a spba ak ish.

Then do the rest and make money

In all honesty, to expect that the rifle could be produced for $500 is ridiculous. It's a niche market item that uses a unique action. Even crappy WASR 10's (basically the cheapest AK in the U.S.) go for more than $500.

So you agree the that adding one more type of rifle action to the list of types already legal here won't change the antis mind?

It's a bolt action. They already exist. It isn't new tech. It just looks different.
