Several months ago, in disassembling my Tula '53 after a milsurp shoot at the EOSC, I stupidly let the return spring fly out in my limited storage room in our condo, jam-packed with stuff.

I literally spent days trying to find the spring and failing, ordered one from Levers' in Vancouver also a well made SKS sight tool.

Yesterday I was working in the same place using the bench for another purpose entirely (actually making several spare "splints" for my trigger thumb.) Now the bench is supported my two Ikea bedside tables with a bottom closing door and about 8" high open fronted shelf just under the separate bench top.

In trying to place the case for my el cheapo battery operated Dremel tool, into the shelf, something was blocking it and I investigated. Eureka, the spring.

I did not feel too bad accept for my lost time searching for the spring and my stupidity  in NOT looking into this shelf right after the spring escaped.

The whole experience though has been positive as I now have an extra spring and a great front sight tool. :)

So pile on to me, I have broad shoulders and can take it. ha:

BTW, to relieve the minds of Andy and the other members of the EOSC who also are involved, I am giving up competing for the obvious safety reasons of my instability and balance problem. I also have a tentative sale lined up for the Tula '53.:dancingbanana:

My garage floor is roughish concrete, heaven forbid I drop a screw while wrenching on something. It just disappears if I don't see it hit the floor...

Ok ok .. now go get a remington Nylon 66 and take that apart.. hahahaha like a friggin swiss watch with crap and springs everywhere... oh and NO parts to be found .. now your into the big leagues when you take that cluster F apart ... LOL

Well, I do have a Ruger 10/22 carbine that I've spent $$$ on and it is no piece of cake either. But the trigger is much improved and I needed a local much younger man to help me. And thanks to him, there are now no trigger issues.

Well, I guess it's always good to have a spare spring! :D

Happens to all of us once in a while, Sly Old Fox. A few years ago I disassembled for the first time a break-open, spring-operated single shot pellet gun. I will leave the rest to everyone's imagination. :)

You think that's bad? I lost an entire toyota motor for awhile earlier this year. Turned out it was in the back of a ford. And in fact, now I think of it, I'm still looking for a 4.56:1 diff that I think I left in a bucket somewhere. And if anyone finds my sks sight tools (any of the three I've lost), I'd appreciate one back. I've ordered a new one anyway. Oh, and my doe bleat call too please.

Things get lost in the translation - I heard you had a screw loose, but you actually lost a spring and found it! Been there and lost a couple over the years.

As for competing, that's going to be your call, but we're open to accommodating you in any way practical.

Thanks, Andy for the consideration but my decision is irrevocable, for the reasons of safety that I gave in the OP.

As for the loose screw, when I shake my head I hear a rattling with my newest hearing aids in, could it be the screw, eh?

I want to thank all those that have posted to this OP of mine. Some are hilarious.

But age does not decrease, no matter how young my face looks. In the past several weeks, I've had occasion with a few complete strangers, men and women, who have assessed my age at well below 87 years.

It is life, and life is a fatal disease, no one gets out of it alive.

Cheers to you all,

SOF

Lou, the above surprise me, knowing well your expertise.
Thanks for the heads-up on that for as you know, a very generous CGN friend, a collector, gave me gratis :dancingbanana: a well made European .177 , a bit of faint barrel pitting, which he was not using. I shall not even think about taking it apart now. While I can clean up the exterior of the barrel and use cold blue, perhaps a stock refinish but that will be it.
