Hi Fellas,

I have a real nice little .308 with a 1 to 4.5 scope on it (Savage Hog Hunter). I have had it for a little over a year (2 Hunting sesons), and never done anything with it but sight it in. The first season I had it, I ended up getting my deer with a bow, and this year I got it with an SKS I got on a trade.

It turns out I like the SKS better, and it's my go to gun now. I never truck hunt, I have never had an opportunity to shoot a deer past 100 yards. I hang on to it in case I ever go moose hunting, which I never do. I don't like truck hunting, I still hunt or stand hunt.

Bear protection is an issue here, but I like the SKS better even for that.

Should I keep it, or sell it and put the money into something I will use ? My gun expert friends say everybody should own a .308.

Opinions ?

If you have other hunting guns (or bow) you like better then stick with what you like.
There are lots of guns "everyone" will say you should own. 1911, Glock, Tavor, Enfield, SKS, AR, 870, ...
You can go broke trying to have "everything" you "should" have :)
BTW, PM me if you are serious about selling the Hog Hunter

I tried those, years later I don't own even one on that list. Something to think about.

If you don't 'have to' sell it, then personally, I'd just keep it.

Especially, if it looks like this:

Keep the .308! You can't go wrong with the cartridge, and it is common enough to always be able to find ammunition. Some time before the registry was shut down, there was an access to information request for all the data, anonymous and sorted down to the first two digits of the postal code. In postal code K1x ###, these are the top cartridges with their number out of roughly 29,000 guns.

Keep the 308 , it is a good all around cal. , and if you need it , you will have it......if you do not need it right away , then a rifle is easy to store , and costs nothing to maintain . It is always good to have a back up rifle....

Yer a young whipper snapper ain't you?
What is all the fuss with these SKS's thing-a-muh-jigs?

Never liked them til I owned one. Cheap to buy, cheap to shoot, kill deer, and you dont weep when you drop them in the mud. Fast handling, short, bombproof, cleaning kit built right in. Love them

Well, I traded her in on a remington 870 shotgun. Ill get much more use out of that. If I ever need something for long range Ill borrow a .666 Super Magnum Cannon from one of my gun expert buddies.
