Responsible consumer relations on their part to be proactive, keep people informed, and CYA at the same time. Too bad they flinched and told me to contact the RCMP for confiscation...I mean inspection. Because you know the RCMP won't be keeping records on every gun turned in for inspection.
As for the whole PAL/Ammo thing, in Ontario we have the Ammunition Regulation Act, 1994 S.O. 1994, CHAPTER 20, which requires a person present ID in order to purchase ammo. It also makes it a requirement for the business to record:
1. The date and time of the purchase.
2. The name, age and address of the purchaser.
3. The type of identification and permit produced and their serial numbers.
4. The calibre and quantity of ammunition purchased.
Interestingly, there is no provision for how long the records must be kept, so unless there is some other statutory guidance on keeping records, it seems like they have to be kept for ever.
