I am considering purchase of a Dan Wesson 715 ... it is a stainless 6" barrel weighted revolver that looks a lot like the S&W 686.

I am new to DW's but not new to pistols, I have owned several different revolvers, including the 686.

My concerns are around the relative rareness of these ... am I buying a white elephant or are these a true collectable piece that are sought after ... obviously I am thinking of if I wnt to sell it in the future.

The gun looks to be in great shape although I have not fired it yet.

For $500 ... should I or should I just take a pass and stick with the more mainstream brands ...?

Thanks for all advice and input.

Hi

I bought a Dan Wesson 744 VH 44 Mag in 1983 - new. I've kept it all these years while many other guns have come or gone. It must have 40,000 rounds through it and it's still running strong and accurate. The earlier Monson built guns are preferred as the company changed hands several times and QC was variable on later guns.

I'm no expert but I doubt they will ever have great collector value, the Dan will never go up like the Python, but I think they're a great revolver for accuracy and shootability.

The 715 for $500 would be a good deal.

Hopefully more knowledable people will chime in

I had a model 15 in 357 magnum, 6" barrel full underlug
I loved how easily you could change the barrel on these. Someone with a 12.6 licence would appreciate this feature the most
I sold it as I was looking into getting a more mainstream brand. I should have kept it

40,000 wow, that's a testament to a solid gun for sure.

Thanks for the info.

I sold it 2-3 years ago.
I was asking 500$ which i thought was a reasonable price
It was sold rather quickly (first week I think)

Hi
I would buy it if I were you.

I have 5 of the Dan Wesson revolvers. A model 15 and a model 715. I also have two 44 mag guns and a .22 revolver. They are every bit as good as most anything else that is out there today.

I will admit Smith & Wesson's are my first choice but the Dan Wesson's are second.

Just my two cents worth.

Thanks, I believe I will go for it ... :)

Well I did buy it … this morning … will take a few days for the transfer and shipping of course … hopefully will arrive by the end of next week all going well … excited to get my hands on it and take her to the range.

It did not come with the barrel wrench or spacer so I’ll have to pick those up … anything else I should be thinking of getting at the same time?

Thanks for the information and encouragement from all here …

Nice to see the Dan's getting their fair shake. Great triggers.....tight and crisp. Just wondering if anybody has seen or heard of a Hunter's Pack for sale up here, or for that matter, anywhere?! Yes, I have one and it's NOT for sale. Just trying to get some info on availability and value. They came with the frame and 8" barrel/shroud of a regular .357 but included an extra shroud with a factory-mounted Burris 2X scope (no irons on this shroud) and the Barrel tool, all in the factory hardshell case.

Greetings Ranbur. Please let me know that your are enjoying the gun. I went to my local gun store (Windsor) on Friday and actually held it. I took the weekend to research it and decided I would buy it first thing Monday morning. My wife changed my plans and when I made it to the store it was sold. I missed it by 4 hours. It is a beautiful piece. Let me know if you every decide to sell it as I once held it.

Hi
All you really need is the takedown wrench, you can use a .006 feeler guage that you can buy at any auto parts store.

The best place to buy your Dan Wesson Parts is EWK arms, just google it.

Hey, I'm not sure if I should feel bad or thank your wife ... looked pretty nice on the site and I've always wanted a DW so figured what the heck. If I do decide to pass it on I'll definitely give you first rights ... send a PM with your email and phone and I'll keep it, you never know ...
