Vortex SPARC II on 1956 Marlin 336 35 Rem?

Hi everyone.

I love my handy little Marlin with the bigger bullets and it fits my hand so well for hunting in Alberta. Took a bigger spring black bear with it a couple of years ago and it works fine. I have noticed that in the last few years I am having trouble viewing the iron sights and think a light weight red dot would fit the bill for my marlin. I tried a cheaper red dot and it quit- but seemed as good solution for my last years of hunting.

Does anyone have experience with a Vortex SPARC II red dot on a Marlin lever gun?


And a second question: Are the Nikon Monarch 3 Riflescopes pretty good for a bolt-action bad-weather gun? It's an 8.5 lb. 6.5x55 tack driver. I am thinking of the 2.5x10x42 BDC model for it's low end magnification.

Fully waterproof, fogproof and shockproof. Should be a great choice for what you're looking to do.
 
I mounted a Sparc 2 on my M700 .308 18.5" carbine with great results. It stood up to the recoil of the 150 gr SST handloads I used. Most happy with that Sparc2 in the thick cedars. :D

The rifle hunting season is over for me so I remounted that Sparc2 on my CQB rig, a flat topped CMMG 12.5" barrel with NEA quad rail! :)

Holoson is a new player making waves in the $200 red dot price range but I like the fact the Vortex sprac 2 comes with flip up caps for hunting.
Vortex is also more established and known for good warranty support. Once Holosun finalizes a design (they seem to change models every year or so) and maybe lengthen the tubes a bit so flip up caps can slip on better they will be hard to beat at the lower price level.

Holo sun, where is that from, or where is it made- did you know?
 
I'd say China just like the Vortex.
The Holosun also has a finer adjustment for windage and elevation. .5moa instead of 1moa with the Sparc II

At 125 yards maximum for a sure kill with the 35 Remington cartridge, one inch is fine enough for me. The Marlin is quite accurate at 1.25" spread at 100 yards. Are you using yours at longer range?
 
Deer hunting ranges. 0-200 yards.
I'd just prefer a finer adjustment if I had the choice but the 1 moa adjustment of the sparc is fine for hunting.
 
I really like the 2x multiplier on the Vortex.
If your eyes are going I'd highly recommend it just for that.
Or something with even greater magnification.
