Wainwright?

No, there is an annual hunt on the base there. Takes a lot of priority to get the coveted tags. Our 3 day tags start Monday, heading up tomorrow. The muzzleloader seasons are on now.

Reason I asked is weather/condition reports. Sounds like today it's -40 or so with 3' of drifting snow and tough to get around. :(

We're going anyway, won't be the first time we've hunted in nasty conditions. Just in to warm up from loading the truck: tire chains, long 3" ratchet straps, shovels, snowshoes, loggin' chain, etc. Wife's busy packing the woolies and digging out our thick socks. :)

Bring a shovel, chains and snowshoes! Hunters are getting stuck everywhere in the training area and the base is still in the process of plowing the roads.

Been there for some cold, miserable hunts over the years but the hunting is usually good then. Good luck!

Make sure you bring lots of warm clothing it's cold here at the moment and the windchill is punishing.

You bet, we'll be layered up, I'm pretty good except for my fingers and toes. Froze them too many times feeding cattle; now they freeze pretty easy, but just checked the forecast and it's to be a balmy -11 for a high on monday. That sounds pretty nice compared to today.

Wife may look like the michelin man though, hopefully she can move her arms enough to shoulder her rifle, or at least run a shovel! :d

Right on. Have fun, even with warmer temperatures you can count on wind down in this country, sounds like you're prepared though. Best wishes and good luck!

Well, hunts over, back in the bio vista with a drink poured waiting for my turn in the much needed shower. Couldn't have asked for better weather, it was perfect. About 18" of snow in the scrub but fluffy powder so tough sluggin' but no crust.
Spent most of my time trying to help wife get first buck; lot's of opportunites but she just wasn't able to close the deal this time. 2nd day I shot a good sized 3x4 mule so man pride requirement done then back to wife's hunt.
Most guys truck hunt but quite a few walking hunters. Everyone had a lot of fun and all hunters were ready and willing to help one another with sighting info. Lot's of young fellow's and ladies out which was really nice to see.

All in all a very enjoyable 3 day hunt. As with any hunt, not what I would call an easy hunt but effort will be rewarded with opportunity, and we had plenty.

Absolutely beautiful country. I'd describe it as sandhills with more trees.

Best of luck to anyone on the next group, hope the full moon doesn't bite you in the a$$.

Oh, one good tip for wainwright: the honey pot steak sandwich. It's 22 bucks but on the first bite you'll know why people are willing to pay 22 bucks for a steak sandwich. (comes with lot's of mixed fresh veg., potato and good sized tossed salad, garlic toast)

Also, the four seasons. Honestly by far the worst chinese food likely possible. You have been warned.
