Non-Prohib .380 auto/9mm Browning pistols?

Do they exist and are there any commercially available?
I know the whole purpose for the 9x17 was for subcompact designs but Im curious on finding one thats over the 4.25" cut off for my wife to use, she dosent quite enjoy my G17 or 1911 but finds shooting .22 lackluster. I saw the Taurus model PT58 but no luck on any that would be legal.

The FMK. A clone of the Glock 19. It is soft in the hand with full power 9mm. If you re-load, it can be downloaded. It fits a smaller hand quite well, too.

Wanstalls had them on sale 2 weeks ago for $300. In pink.

A Glock 19 sized pistol is quite manageable in 9mm, and much cheaper to shoot than .380 (or 9 x 18 if no more surplus turns up).

The Glock 19 was made for a smaller hand, and there are some pretty nice recoil control systems (DPMS comes to mind) which will make it even easier to shoot. She'll feel much more accomplished shooting 9mm. If the $300 FMK is any good, that's a lot cheaper than any restricted .380 pistol will be.

The actual Browning 1922 (or 1910 with a longer barrel) felt recoil is worse in .380 -- since it's straight blowback and narrower -- than a Glock 19 with a recoil management system. The Gen 4 pistols have a two-stage scheme (like the G26/27) that seems a bit nicer, though it doesn't quite tame the recoil like the DPMS system does.

I have a bunch of .380 pistols, including a few restricted ones, and prefer shooting my Glock 19 or even the Glock 26. If there were a restricted barrel for the closed breech Glock 42, or the Colt Government pistols, it would be a different story. Those are much nicer to shoot, and even my little Colt Mustang is more manageable than the FN/Browning 1910 in .380.

Your wife may not enjoy Glock 17, but I would advise you to let her try shooting 9mm out of heavier pistol, made of steel.
CZ SP01 Shadow comes to mind.
It may be exactly what she needs.

Also, I would agree on suggestion for revolver in 38 Special.

Beretta 86? I know they made .380 models w/111mm barrels (4.37"). Not that readily available but importable from the USA (if you can find one) through IRG maybe???

Readily available .380 would be a Makarov.

I do like the G19 Gen 4 which is soft shooting but unsure how it would feel vs a .380.

I bet she would enjoy a .32 or .380 Skorpion rifle, but that's definitely not what you asked for. They are loads of fun.

Always wanted a Sig 232 or Walther in .380, it's never going to happen. Had the 9mm 239, but I think the recoil was more than my full sized 226.

I have a browning bdx in restricted status that epps made also have a berretta 1934 with the same story. just know the little 380s give a good kick
 
I like the 1922 in .380 so much I have 2 :)
I would not say that the recoil is at all excessive. It's a small powder load in those .380 cases after all. Another of JB's great designs.
 
Wanstall's says they'll be getting the Browning 1911's in .380. Looks like the OP flew the coop but if anyone is interested it appears they'll be coming. I started a thread in their section if anyone is interested in this firearm.
