Which CZ 75, and why, or why not?

Pre 'B' may force one to use older style mags. One's best bet is a regular plane jane 75 SP-01 Shadow. Only thing/s with those are - pay attention to rear sight's 'set' screw as well as trigger 'over travel' screw - both need some Blue Loctite.
In most cases over travel screw is over rated and is unnecessary too.
 
My wife owns a SP01 Canadian Edition and I can only say good things about it.

I shoot much better with CZ than with my Glock and actually it ends being a much better experience by the end of the day.

The trigger is really good (way much better than my Glock, which is somewhat tuned) with a little bit of overtravel but I am being picky in this case.

Last but not least, the contrast of the silver with red it is (for me) worth of the extra we paid for (the tuned trigger also helps a lot :) )

Well, thanks for all the help fellas. As luck would have it, yesterday Lefebvre's posted an ad in the EE for a brand new SP-01 Shadow for $769! So I think the gun gods were smiling on me, and I snapped it up! 3 Mags too, I wasn't expecting that! Oh,it's a good day. Now... anyone want an SR9? :)

You're going to love it.....hope you saved some cash for lots of ammo....lol
 
I have a Beretta 92fs and a CZ 75B Omega.

Build quality and finish on the Beretta is better.

The Beretta is lighter, because it has an aluminum frame.

The Beretta has a nicer trigger, especially in single action mode.

The Beretta has better sights (The ones on the CZ have odd coloured paint dots, and they are kind of blotchy, like a child applied them. The Beretta ones have bold, clean, clear white paint dots).

Cleaning the Beretta is slightly easier because it has the latch to remove the slide, instead of having to line things up and pop out a retainer.

If I had to keep one, it would be the Beretta.

Right now you can get a CZ 75 TS from Italian Sporting Goods in Vancouver for $800.00. Most accurate hand gun I own. If you can't shoot straight with this gun you can't shoot straight with anything. 5.4" barrel all steel so pretty heavy. Shoots 40 S & W. Holes touching groups at 10 yards no problem. Great trigger. The gun normally sells for $1400 or so. Best deal you will find. Its a little fussy over ammo and needs full power loads but what a dream to shoot.
 
Holy CRAP!! I shot it for the first time today, and was completely blown away! It is sooooo nice, and so fricking accurate! I am extremely pleased! It even shoots my home cast boolits perfectly, WITH NO LEADING! I am so, so very happy! Wish I had bought this pistol to begin with! I was starting to think I couldn't shoot straight with my SR9. That beautiful single action trigger on the shadow is an absolute delight!

After trying a BUNCH of handguns at my local rental range the Shadow became my first ever handgun for the reasons you've already found. And like you when I shot cast lead rounds it was even MORE accurate.

A note on shooting cast bullets. Much of the accuracy gain to be hand from shooting cast bullets is based on how well the bullet fits the bore. So to anyone that finds that they get poor results and maybe some leading when shooting cast it's usually due to the bullet being a little too small. The best size to start with is a bullet that is .001 to .002 inch larger than the bore's groove diameter. That way the bullet swages down and seals well.

Hey Herring, you were worried a little about wanting an adjustable sight. You're going to find that with a semi auto handgun that you need to shoot ammo that is within a fairly narrow power factor band. If the ammo is too light or too strong it either won't cycle or it'll beat the frame to death. And generally the fixed sights are picked to suit the ammo that is normally shot with the gun. In my case I find that 125gn ammo shoots right on to POA with my Shadow. 115's tend to shoot a hair lower than POA and 147's tend to print on the target a touch higher than POA. But if you decide to shoot a steady diet of either 115's or 147's then you can always fit a different height front sight to suit the ammo. Or in the case of deciding to go with 115's exclusively you could opt to file a few thou off the top of the rear sight. But really I found that 115's tend to be a little more snappy. 147's work well at meeting IPSC power factor with lighter recoil but they cost more to find and buy. In the end I decided to just standardize on 125's for myself as a decent enough all 'round compromise for my 9mm loading.

The only reason I'd look specifically for a semi auto that has adjustable sights is if I wanted to shoot the gun in classic bullseye matches or practicing where I want to use the "6 o'clock" sight picture. The fixed combat sights are fine for action shooting where you want the "direct on" combat sight picture. But if using the gun for match like bullseye shooting then one can obtain that last edge in sight picture accuracy with the 6'oclock hold. And to get the sights to offset by that much you really need the adjustable rear sight.
 
Glad you liked it! When I was looking for my first handgun, the SP-01 shadow was high on my list but I couldn't find one to try. Ended up going with Sig P226 Enhanced Elite for me and S&W MP9 for my wife. My brother just picked up a SP-01 shadow as his first handgun (on sale for $699!) and can't wait to try it out
