Building my first AR15

Sadly some of my habits in the past have been not been waiting for sales… I mean if it’s on sale when I want it that’s a bonus lol. Dumb I know but being new to firearms in general I have a lot of firsts times to experience 

NEA however seems to have components priced similar to the cost of a complete rifle.

I just picked up the NEA15 lower receier today from SRFC for $69 on sale, they just stocked today...its $174ish normally. so there's 60% off right there.

Buy whatever you want, or can afford at the time. if you're not competing I don't think it matters, it will probably shoot better then 1/2 the keyboard commandos dressing up their AR Barbie dolls.. save more for ammo and blast away! You can save a ton Buying stuff tax free and shipping included off the EE that other people have bought and want to discard, just takes some patience!

If you have a decent tool box and played with Lego as a kid you can probably assemble 1!

Op please research nea before buying

Oh yes, just make sure to set your search parameters to go back to 2012 ;). If you only search the last couple of years you won't find all of the juicy NEA drama - all you will find is that they build solid rifles with very few issues, have plenty of satisfied customers, and support 3gun matches across the country, etc.

They still have issues that come up more then any other manufacturer I will agree they have come a long way and their support in matches and the localshooting ccommunity is their only saving grace, would I ever buy another new nea? No just becouse I have been burned a few times but I dont slander them becouse of their local support I just want customers to make an informed decision either way.

Thanks for the info, I have chosen to go with NEA for the low prices and being my first build if I mark the hell out of it I won’t feel as bad.

Ill post some picks of the lower when I get it together for those who are interested.

On a side note: I am trying to source out a roll pin set for when I damage some past the point of return, I see Brownells has a nice kit but it’s been sold out for the better part of two months now. If anyone knows of a set maybe specifically geared toward AR’s it would be much appreciated.

A couple threads got me so excited I called in sick and put my NEA together lol Wolverine sells small parts.. roll pins/detents/spings etc..
heres what I posted in another AR15 thread..
NICE! take your time gathering parts, buildings fun! after thinking about my response to your thread I got a little too excited, and said 'Fawk-it' and called in sick like I said I would to build. (my barrel isn't even here yet LOL) My NEA lower and upper fit perfect and the DD LPK slide right in nice and tight! NO issues and NO special tools. Pretty sure I didn't scratch a thing (as someone else mentioned), I put some tape on the side of the receiver when I tapped in the roll pin for the bolt catch, that was about the hardest part, they whole thing was like gun lego...

just for the photo I stuck a carry handle and free float for end on it that I had from an old NEA 10/22 build...

That's a slick looking unit. Burnt Bronze is far better than the dull blue/grey NEA finishes their products in

I built this one, almost all of the parts are made by NEA and sourced from site sponsor SFRC. Ryan and Marcie are terrific people to deal with. As others have said, it's more costly to build than to buy a fully assembled rifle but it was fun to build.
