Shorten PAL Approval Times

Quick update. I called today. 2 weeks after my application showed up online. I assume I just went through my own interview because I asked if they need anything else from me and the RCMP office said no - just have your references call in. The only questions I got asked were to confirm my name, address, phone number, date of birth, place of birth. No other questions beyond that. Overall took me about 5 minutes including waiting on the line. FYI I am applying for my PAL/RPAL.

Just got approved today December 6th!
Received on Oct 2
Online on Oct 30th
Charged on November the 2nd.

Hope this helps fellow Ontarians with their apps.

Did you wait for your marks from the CFO before sending in your application?

When my application appeared online , I called for the extension number for interviews and to do mine. I was told that I did not have to be interviewed. I have one of my references who call two days later to be told that it could not pass the interview for identification purposes and that he would receive a letter in order to be interviewed... By the way, it is for upgrading my PAL to RPAL

Another update. Last friday one of my references called. Today my second reference called and was told that i should call back. So i called back and the lady said that's weird. Lol. Anyway she did inform me that my application has been forwarded to my cfo for review and approval. For those wondering the reference interview consisted of questions such as: how long have you know the applicant? How did you meet/how are you related to the applicant? Have you seen the applicant get mad? Is the applicant a responsible person? What is the purpose of the applicant applying for a license? Which gun club is the applicant looking to join?

Is the RCMP online check site down?

I have had two evenings in a row that if I try to go to the "sign in partner" to log in, I get a screen reading:

Service Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or communication problems. Please try again later.

Their portal has been mangled since Saturday evening. I would recommend calling in as the CSRs can still query on their end. Hopefully they fix it soon. It's delaying everything like transfers, etc. So black friday deals be delayed.

The website being down for some time is not without precedence and prompts me to attribute it to: 1) gross ineptitude and negligence on the part of a major federal agency; 2) a covert procedure to protect against possible security issues (can you imagine what some might do with the personal information contained in the firearms database?); and/or 3) a means of simply slowing everything down, including transfers and anxious PAL applicants. Personally, given their resources and reputation, I cannot see this website being down for so long due to a lack of IT resources!

"Have you seen the applicant get mad" seriously???

Yes I am being serious. Just another update. It turns out that the rcmp were trying to reach me for a proper interview. I guess the interview I had last week didn't suffice. I was asked: what is the purpose of your application?, how long have you been interested in guns? which gun club are you looking to join? These are on top of what my references were asked when they got interviewed. On top of all this, they actually interviewed my wife yesterday (luckily). Again same questions as before about the purpose of the application, which club i am going to join, plus is wife aware that I am applying for a firearms license and is she ok with me owning a firearm? I got the full pat down yesterday I think particularly to a) the shooting in ottawa and b) I live in the GTA. Both pertains to my situation because a) I have a really weird spanish name that is pronounced differently than when initialized b) born in a country considered to be in the axis of evil list (ie. middle east) c) I am neither spanish nor middle eastern (spanish by ancestry only) d) I speak fluent english. Yeah, I get the same treatment whenever I cross the border and they have a look at my passport.

I get that some guys just get interviewed once and that's it. I am one of those people that always gets red flagged. So my case is on the once-and-a-while scenarios.

The website is back online but when I called today the recording stated that the office is closed due to unforeseen circumstances... Interesting.

Thanks guys for letting me know the site is back up. I finally got this message:

Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number

So I am very happy...yippee!!

My application was received on Dec 8, I tried to logon to the rcmp site today (Dec 10) but it says my information does not match. How long does it usually take before I can check my application online?
