removal of m305 muzzlebreak/flash hider.

Look for welds at the about 4:00 and 7:00 positions and use a big hammer (a big stone chisel also helps). You may not be able to salvage the stock flash hider after removing it.

The quality and depth of the welds depends on which Chinese shop class drop out was on the welder that day. Tactical Teacher has a whole lesson plan on the topic.

I have had various luck removing flash-suppressors. One was a prizewinning SOB that dulled all the drill bits I had on hand, and it still needed a couple of frickin' massive smacks to break free. Another one came off like a bride's pyjamas.

You will need castle nut pliers to back off the castle nut after you remove the castle nut set screw. Back off the castle nut and support the barrel .Get a BIG hammer and punch and place the punch on the bayo log if it has one. Use vicegrips to hold the punch and hit that thing HARD. Watch for the flashider moving forward against the castle nut and then back off the castle nut some more. After the spot welds break free just tap the flashider lightly forward while backing off the castle nut.

If you cant get any castle nutpliers you can make your own .

I thought getting the stock front site gas block off of my BCM was stressful but this was the winner. I got it off but broke the flash hider with the last tap. So now I need a flash hider. At least its off. I'm changing out the gas system so thats done. Thaks for all the great info guys. The youtube video was a great help.

We remove these babies with the described bubba methods quite regularly. And that's the reason I always have a few spare American flash suppressors on hand to replace the high school shop class units after we royally fix them. :)

I have spares if you need one right away....

Cheers.
Barney.

If any of you with M305s can attend Barney's M14 clinic, do it. A fun way to spend a day.

One of the things that happens is that you all get the flash hider knocked off and then we sit around and play mix n match with the parts so everything indexes ok.

A very educational experience. I have gone twice and managed to get 3 rifles tuned up a bit. They shoot just fine.

I love playing flash hider swap at clinics, just remember to put a cleaning rod down the barrel after to see if the new hider will make contact with the exiting bullet. That happened to me after a clinic once, and my brony bailed me out and managed to order one from treeline. I'm not sure how the hell that got shipped from the USA, or if they're still doing this, but it rings nicely. Kind of reminds me of when you drink too much hootch and you get that ringing sound in your head before you throw up all over your girlfriend, and then she gets mad at you and won't even take care of your cat for like 3 bloody weeks.

Was that your inside voice, or your imaginative movie scriptwriter voice?

It's easy if you have the tools/vice.

My local gunsmith won't touch it. Are there any smiths that can do this (in less than 6 months and not part of an expensive optimization package)?

My sight is canted to the right (2007 model).
