local retailer has a great deal on Swiss k-31 rifles and surp ammo. I really love the engineering with these rifles. I know they don't have a lot of battle history but they are one of the few milsurps that are still very affordable. My collection of milsurps so far is just an sks ,svt40 and a mosin 91/30. I love all the milsurps and want to acquire the affordable ones while they are still affordable. The garands, m14's and even the enfields now are jumping up in price. Are there any other milsurps that are in the $300 range I should consider first. I thought about a m38 or m44 mosin but I already have two guns that fire that cartridge. I have also heard that the k-31 swiss are probably the most accurate gun of the era.

get one, maybe 2. you WON'T regret it. by far my favorite milsurp for range fun.
Do it, its a nice rifle and is very fun to shoot with the straight pull bolt. Having a decent supply of GP11 ammo is also nice. Buy one, or two even and stock up on GP11. A few Cases is a good idea, even if you don't touch it for a while, you will be glad you spent the money when the GP11 begins to dry up.

My collections consists of two major parts. One side Soviet (love the history and the price of the items), the other side Swiss (once again love the history, the quality and the accuracy). Frankly you will be hard pressed to find a superior gun to a K31 even considering most modern rifles (and none can compare price wise). Be careful though, once you get one, you might want to get two or start down the road to the older models like the K11 or G11, consider yourself warned.
Had mine since 1989, and a K11 bought a week later, too.
I wouldn't sell either of 'em for five times what I paid for them.

Come join your local swiss shooting club if you have one. Excellent rifles with beautiful construction.
By all means, go for it. I bought mine in mid-2012 on the reputation of accuracy and usability alone (I thought they were mildly ugly at the time) and, man, it lived up to and exceeded the reputation. Built like a tank, a smooth bolt action, and more accurate than most of us are. For what it delivers in terms of comfort and accuracy with surplus ammo, it's one of the better deals you can get. Here's mine with my Pattern 1914 Pioneer Sawback bayonet - 18.9 inches of milled, serrated steel.

There is nothing to THINK about... These are one of the best milsurps you can find... They are fairly cheap and incredibly accurate. They're also getting harder to find so don't delay!
