Hi all,

I am starting my first M14 build and have come across a Kreiger Barrel on the EE.

The barrel is a KRIEGER 30 CAL 5-R Rifling barrel balnk 1-12 twist. The barrel is 1-12 twist, straight bull barrel, diameter is 1.125inch. The barrel length is 29-1/4''.

Just wondering if it would be possible/smart to purchase this barrel and cut it down to 18.5" and then attach it to either a Norc receiver or another m14 receiver.

Here is the EE link:

Thanks,
Ben

It would need extensive work to make into an M14/M1A barrel. Can't see this being cost effective even if you can find someone to do the work. A better bet is to buy a ready made M14/M1A barrel in the suitable length.

Take a look at a machine drawing for an M14 barrel to see how complex they are in comparison to a barrel for a bolt action.

You should contact some of the site sponsors to see if they have what you really want: a Krieger already in an M1A Medium or Heavy profile. Meaning ready to screw it all together with no (or very little) lathework.

It seems the most popular is the Medium Contour.

There is a guy on the EE who had some M1A barrels you might want to check with him to see if he has any left the price is up there though $500 to $550 but I think there ready to go just need fitting to your receiver.

Peterdobson at Hirsch precision I believe has some M1A heavy barrels if I read his add in the EE correctly. 525$ I think. Which seems to be the going price in Canada for a Krieger M1A barrel.

Herron Arms might be able to help you but.... The cost would probably run you pretty high. Barrel cost + machining.
Krieger makes excellent M14/M1A barrels.
Not always plug and play and a lathe should be close at hand for turning down the oprod guide boss and for correctly creating the torque shoulder, which comes at 90 degree and needs an undercut to be "correctly" prepared for the receiver it's being installed to.

Not to mention if installing a Blackfeather also needing to cut a shoulder in the barrel taper behind the op-rod guide to allow it to move rearward enough to fit. Or cutting a radius in the guide to fit over the barrel taper, whatever your flavor.
