MAC gets some hands on time with the Desert Tech MDR Bullpup Rifle

I'd LOVE to gleam into that forward ejection system. Wonder if the T97 can be modified to do the same....I'm imagining it working a certain way but am not sure. What do you think? How does it work? I'm seeing the bolt travelling foward and pushing the brass out but how does it separate away from the ejector?

I've been following this rifles development for some time. I think they should put a different mag release than the current one that is like a tavor with a trigger in front of the magwell, and replace it with a button located like a tavor micro that is in front of the grip used by your shooting finger.

One great thing about this rifle though is being able to swap out from 5.56 to 308, and possibly 7.62x39 I would hope also in the future.

I wouldn't be surprised if it retailed here for upwards of 3500.

Extracts the case rearward, then a little L shaped lever flicks it slightly to the right, then the forward motion of the bolt punches it forward out the chute.

They already have, Tim explains in this vid that the FDE model he displays is a gen 4 revision, which currently has both.

Sadly by the time it becomes available, we'll probably be under Liberal government and this type of a rifle will not be allowed to enter Canadian market.

It does look very nice. I wasn't a huge fan of the Tavor but I'm open to trying another bull-pup.

One concern of mine is whether it will be non-restricted or prohibited. In the video one of Desert Tech's staff mentions that their tester is a select-fire. If they go the route of the SCAR and just have a swappable trigger group, we may not be seeing it up here.

Yup. Exactly how I envisioned it. Only unknown is how it flicks the round to the right and keeps it there. I guess it shares some similarities with Keltecs RFB as it too has forward eject.

So another Stoner action in a plastic shell?

Oh, I'm sorry, it's advanced "polymer" which is more consistent with the $2k+ price tag.

Bullpups were a thing 30 years ago, most of the world has learned and moved on.

I think you are quite wrong on this. Most of the world has moved towards bullpups with the exception of the US and a few others.

Most of the world first rated professional armies are moving away from bullpups. Most notably the French has explicitly said no bullpup in their new rifle solicitation. And the Australian and the New Zealanders are on their ways to ditching Steyr AUG. The belgium is going SCAR-L and the FN2000 is dead.

IWI is the only guy in the block that is pushing bullpup, even they hedge against their main line with the Galil ACE so they have 2 products to offer to clients.

Not sure the US civilian market is 1 step ahead or 1 step behind. I am afraid the US commercial market is 1 step behind the global military trend. Bullpup is still a bit of a curio to the US market, because most of the military bullpups are of foreign design and have not been importable since 89. This only started changing when the patent on the AUG expired awhile ago, and when Steyr and IWI set up shops in the US..
