What has happened to Alliant powders in Canada!

Powder seems to be loosening up a bit. Epp's got 600lbs a couple weeks ago, but not a single pound of pistol powder. On Friday, they got some titegroup in, but it was gone instantly. At Cabela's in Barrie I saw a row of 8lb jugs of Varget, and lots of other Hogdon powders, but again no pistol powder

It's mostly about luck I figure, often somebody stumbles across a bit, they buy some, maybe more of it the next day, or send a buddy in. It's gone in 1 or 2 days. Others maybe buy enough that they have dibbs maybe? Who knows, others have mentioned you just have to look but don't reveal their sources. I don't blame them really................ kinda like finding that perfect hunting spot lol.

I think a couple of strong questions to the distributors of powder in Canada are needed with some straight answers. Just about every store I contact, all over the US has full shelves, so you would think their back orders have been filled, so why then is the whole dam country dry ?? To date I have never had a good answer, just some rumors. It would be nice to know exactly Whats going on from all the factories.

Hodgdon is definitely easier to find. If/when Alliant comes back onto the market, maybe they'll find they've lost market share to Hodgdon with all the reloaders switching over due to necessity.

I just heard directly from an Alliant rep that all Alliant powder is going to manufacturers for loaded ammunition... they are not producing any small quantity powders fir reloaders... "for how long" I asked... got a shrug and "for a long, long while..." as an answer.

How many of those stores in the USA have the Alliant powders in stock? I have searched several of the largest suppliers to see for myself, and they all seem to be out of most Alliant powders.

None of the following US vendors have any pistol powder: Brownells, Midway, Natchez, and Midsouth. The shortage isn't just limited to Canada.

Given that rifle powder is gradually starting to become available again, hopefully pistol powder will follow.

Sorry, but I was not referring to Alliant itself, but all powders. I am just relaying what I have been told.

Rifle powder is fairly easy to find in many parts of Canada right now. For some reason different parts of the country are still in a major shortage. From bulk to retail store level in Ontario there is rifle powder almost everywhere. There is also pistol powder coming in on a regular basis but it sells out quick. I grabbed 2lbs of Titegroup from my local LeBarons (they have a 2lbs/person/day limit). They sold out in a few days; would have sold out to the first customer if they didn't have the limit.

I've read many reports about both the East and West coast still being in a shortage, no idea why. Was the same with 22lr ammo during that shortage. Even when stores in central Canada (stores like Walmart and Canadian Tire even) had 22lr on the shelves again there was zero in the Eastern or Western provinces. I also saw several reports of Alberta and BC stores price gouging like crazy as well; sometimes more than twice the price the ammo was selling for in Ontario at the same time.

Are there importers in those regions that just aren't importing or distributing or do retailers in those regions order from central Canada importers who aren't filling orders? I have no idea.

LeBarons imports their own powder. I check in every week or two and ask if they know when the next order will be.
Higginsons in Hawksbury near Ottawa nearly always has rifle powder in stock. Only difficult ones are pistol or Varget. I don't know if they import their own or not but it wouldn't surprise me if they did.
I also buy a lot of my powder at a local shooting range store that is owned by the same family that owns Bowmac Gunpar which is a big wholesaler/importer so they essentially supply themselves.

I've had really good luck in getting reloader 15 powder, bass pro usually gets it in every month or two.
I just grabbed another two pounds today for $38/pound

Just this morning I stepped into three shooting supply stores in the Delta / Richmond BC area, and out of three stores, there was one pound of Retumbo, that nobody wanted or needed. Also noted that they had nothing in primers also, so something is going on??
