CMMG .22LR uppers, who has them?

My experience has been different than yohann160's regarding magazines: I have 2 of the new style CMMG mags, but find the Black Dog 25 round stainless steel lip mags to be much better. I have found them significantly easier to load and they have been much more reliable for me. BD also makes a 32 round mag that has a thumb stud to depress the mag spring for even easier loading, although I don't like the sheet metal feed lips quite as much. All my BD mags even the old style plastic feed lip style and the 50 round drum are more reliable in my rifle than the CMMGs. Perhaps the CMMGs will get better as they get broken-in, but I can rarely be bothered to use them, because I prefer the BD mags so much.

I just wanted to add that the only 2 types of ammo that run reasonably well, for me, in the CMMG mags are CCI Mini-Mag solid and Remington Subsonic. While all brands of ammo work equally well in the BD mags.

I should mail you my upper. lol

Your reviews are always pretty depressing.

Not necessarily... Reading about rimfire autoloaders, I've learned one constant and that is that each gun is different and has its own magic witch's brew of ammo, mags, lubing, machining and incantations to your deity if choice and it counterpart. What works for one person doesn't work for another. I talked to another gent running the same upper and his experiences were the he preferred running BD/CMMG mags in plastic lips because steel lip mags were too unforgiving. Plastic mags were still ok for 2000-4000rds each before going into the practice mag bin.

I use fireclean religiously. That might be part of it! lol

Good reminder to order an ultrasonic cleaner for my BCG and to start trolling for foreclosures of any businesses that may use a large ultrasonic parts washer (assuming my wife would permit me to bring one into the condo lol) so I can throw the entire rifle into it after a day of fun and games at dust central

I may not use "Fireclean" but I do run my upper very clean and well lubricated so I am sceptical that this is a factor. I believe the feed angle is the issue:

This would also explain why the ammo with a very round nose (mini mag solid and Rem ss) feeds the best.

Tom E Gun, am I to believe that BD mags push the safety cartridges at too much of an angle possibly causing feeding issues? I'm not good at eyeballing angles off a pic posted on the Internet :)

Trying to find a protractor, all I have is a romer. I have noticed the angle of the feeding changes with the number of bullets in the magazine.

Three empty magazines :

From left to right, 1 round, 5 rounds and 10 rounds :

Here is an empty magazine inserted :

Here is a magazine inserted with one round :

The angle gets steeper with the more rounds in. However, I fire magazines with 25 rounds an don't experience any feeding issues at the end, as far as I can remember.

Looking forward to getting the test results, Tom E Gun. By the way gents, I REALLY appreciate your input as I'll be moving to a jurisdiction that's a bit tight on guns and regulates a lot more accessories than we're used to, so I wanna get as much as I can before I go (plus I wanna support out businesses) :)

Competition so you can probably assume he is using decent ammo. Painful to watch lol

Runs CCI SV according to another one of his youtube vids, so it's roundnose, not an HP. On that note I'll have to sell mine... Sold my last bolt 22lr gun and there's no way in hell I can afford to run that ammo in an autoloader lol

By the way, are these dedicated 22lr uppers normal, as in will they take normal aftermarket handguards? Fell in love with a really light build today, so I'm thinking of going with a CF handguard and a skeleton stock if the upper will take the handguard.
