With newly added in 2015 rule 7.3.3, the self- ROing squads will be really interesting...

---
7.3.3 A person acting as a Match Official is prohibited from having a holstered firearm while directly accompanying and timing a competitor during his attempt at a COF. Violations are subject to Rule 7.2.2.

This was covered in the Action Shooting Radio podcast. They are aware.

couldn't the RO just leave their pistol on the safe table for that range while they are timing and accompanying the competitor during the COF ? There are 2 RO's and 1 CRO per squad so when it's an RO's turn to shoot the other RO can put their pistol on the safe table.

Or they could get a dedicated stage ROs for a change... Just saying.

BTW, correct me if I'm wrong, but score keeper will have to remove gun too and in my recollection, at some of their bays, safety tables are quite a hike.

Not going to happen. We've done it this way for 9 years, not going to change now...Just saying.

As for the RO not wearing a gun. Not an issue, the tables will be made available.

'Shooting the RM3G World Shoot.... Most of the RO's carried loaded guns. Nobody died.
A few rattle snakes bit the dust though...

I believe the ruling includes the words "while accompanying AND TIMING the competitor", therefore only the RO with the timer accompanying the competitor needs to off his firearm..........also, much easier than going to closest Safety Area to take off and leave equipment would be simply having the required RO bag his firearm (on the line) before running shooters

This is by far the STUPIDEST rule we've had forced upon us IMO to date. It's a pain in the ass, unneeded and anti gun. We're at a freaking gun range people who the hell cares who's wearing a gun or who isn't. As I said before, has there suddenly been a rash of guns being dropped by ROs. It's a rule for the sake of making a rule. I'll never buy into the rational for it. If it wouldn't cost us our sanctioning I would publicly announce that it won't be followed. If I did that I know some whinny ass some where would report me. Bunch a cry babies. Jebus this get's under my skin.

its IPSC, let it roll off. i do agree they seem to be going backwards on this rather than moving forward - allowing ROs to shoot with squads is only a good thing - allows for quicker squads through stages, allows for ROs to shoot rather than just RO all day long etc.

...allowing ROs to shoot with squads is only a good thing - allows for quicker squads through stages,

How's that? Actually it is not possible to run the squad in the most efficient way, because by the time they learn what is the most efficient way, they have to move to another stage... On top of that add inconsistency in running the stage, so not all competitors are shooting under the same conditions and even stage briefing may wary from squad to squad (subject of squad's CRO interpretation of the stage briefing).

allows for ROs to shoot rather than just RO all day long etc.

That maybe the only good thing, but then again, at most other matches ROs are given opportunity to shoot the whole match at a much faster pace.

IPSC shooters are their own worst enemy. I'm sure that the rule was brought in because somebody somewhere chose to exercise something other than common sense, and then when called on it played the "it's not disallowed by the rulebook" card. We have to look no further than our own region to find prime examples of why past rules have been brought in, and we STILL have people who violate those rules.
